Working To Conserve Town’s Water Land
      Larry Garland is still pursuing his life lifelong interest in conservation, now as a member of the Northfield Conservation Commission. A graduate of Cornell, Mr. Garland lives in Northfield Falls, and is a retiree of Vermont Fish and Wildlife. His interest began in his youth and runs in the family; his father was a soil conservationist.

Roxbury Voters Were In A Generous Mood, Passed Most Important Items
      Sap buckets were out and mud puddles were unavoidable as the citizens of Roxbury made their way to the town hall on an unusually mild Town Meeting Day. The restored school building, which is normally filled with children, became a gathering place for the over 80 voters who spent the day practicing real democracy.

Voters Slash School Budget By $400,000, Nix Veterans Exemption Increase, Other Expenditures
      WILLIAMSTOWN – In a surprise effort, a total of $400,000 was slashed from the school budget at town meeting last Tuesday. The voters also refused to endorse a number of other articles on the Town Warning. It took four tries and a debate that took over 90 minutes but voters finally agreed to levelfund the school budget at the same $7,760,701 figure they approved a year ago.

Local Ladies Gym Gets New Name And New Owners
      Recently the franchise for the Ladies Workout Express was terminated. Three local women have joined together as partners to form the Women’s Health and Fitness Center at the Gray Building as a limited liability company. Maria Beede, Amanda Habel and Patsy White are now leading a movement to establish a community based fitness center in Northfield.
