Miffed About Merger

TO THE EDITOR, THE NORTHFIELD NEWS: I'M WRITING in regards to the "From the Con" article by Charles Morse, dated October 23, 2008.

First, I would like to note the paper announcing town select board and village trustees meeting to discuss allocation of expenses of the two governments.

I find it CONiving that the paper comes out on Wednesday, October 22 in the village and is dated October 23 for those who receive it by mail and the meeting above was set for October 20.

Those that do not live in the village also don't get Channel 7 for local or upcoming events.

So I say, the deck is stacked against us outside the village.

My second thought is, so this is how diplomatically those who wish to merge are going to do it?

Then you invite public participation to both the meeting on October 20 when the announcement is received via a weekly paper that comes out on October 23.

I'm miffed! Something's got to give here if you truly want fair participation.

I'm glad the special town meeting for November 18 has been announced for to agree or disagree with the merging of town and village highway costs (after the major work done in town) so us mountain town folks can be merged to help pay for its cost.

Charles Morse is a pro-merger advocate even though he claims in his editorial it is not a merger document but is surely an endorsement as such.

Merger has been fought for fifty years and successfully so that in town and village face two different realities even though they are one community.
