POLICE REPORT
October 22
1:38 p.m. - Parking Problem - Police ticketed a vehicle that was parked in front of the Plumley Armory. The vehicle was protruding into Central Street causing a traffic hazard. Police called for a wrecker to remove the vehicle. The owner showed up a few minutes later and the wrecker
was cancelled. Due to the large number of parking complaints on Central Street, violators will be towed at their own expense.
2:12 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to South Village Mobile for a report of a theft. The manager at South Village Mobile advised that on or around 10-20- 08 and 10-21-08, a subject or subjects cut open one of the propane cages and stole approximately 10 full propane cylinders valued at $540.00. The propane tanks are labeled and distributed by Blue Rhino Gas. Please contact the police if you have any information.
5:07 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to 88 North Main Street for a two vehicle accident with injuries. Traffic had come to a stop on North Main Street and a vehicle traveling north, struck one of the stopped vehicles. The vehicle was totaled and caused substantial damage to the other. The operator of the stopped vehicle was complaining of neck pain and was transported by the Northfield Ambulance to Central Vermont Hospital.
October 23
10:55 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to Northfield Falls for a citizen dispute. The owners of the property were arguing over the property lines again. Police helped resolve the argument for the time being.
12:17 p.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a stolen bicycle from School Street. The complainant advised that the bike has been missing for about a week. The complainant did not know who may have taken the bike.
1:03 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to Dog Wood Glen for a report of an elderly female being threatened. Police spoke with the female and her son, and advised her to get a restraining order against the individual.
4:10 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to the Rte. 12A apartments for a report of juveniles having a dispute. Police spoke with all the parties involve and it was determined that all parties involved would not speak to each other and stay away from each other.
October 24
9:04 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to Wall Street in Northfield for a report of an motor vehicle accident. The complainant came out this morning to find that someone had hit her car and did not leave a note to identify who they were. Police estimated the damage to her vehicle to be approximately $1000.00.
11:42 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer was advised of suspicious activity. Earlier in the evening while the babysitter was at the home some suspicious noises had been heard. When the homeowner came home and was advised, an investigation showed that there had been someone outside the home. The officers were called, but due to the time span there was not anyone outside. The officer will be concluding the investigation.
October 25
8:03 a.m. - Recovered Stolen Property - A juvenile, age 16, of Bethel was arrested for two counts of larceny and 2 counts of possession of stolen property. Police received a complaint that the juvenile was attempting to sell large quantities of silver coins. He admitted to stealing the coins and also in possession of two stolen knives from a separate residence. He received a citation to appear in the Washington County District Court on 12-4-08 at noon.
October 26
12:42 a.m. - Assault with a Knife - Police responded to CVH for a reported assault that occurred in Northfield. The victim stated that he had
gotten into an altercation at a residence in Northfield and while leaving had been cut with a knife. Upon arriving at the residence the alleged suspect had left the area. Witnesses provided verbal and written statements and the investigation is ongoing.
2:44 a.m. - DUI - An officer heard tires spinning at the intersection of Wall Street and Water Street. While speaking with the operator the officer could smell a very stong odor of intoxicants. A local man, age 19, refused to submit to both the standardized field sobriety exercises and a preliminary breath test. Mr Murphy was released with a citation. A passenger in the vehicle was referred to Teen Alcohol Safety Program.
4:40 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint from a concerned citizen about an incident that occurred at Memorial Park. Police learned that a male pulled out a knife, was cursing, and was 'showing it off.' It was advised that the male did not threaten anyone with the knife. Police gathered a physical description are attempting to locate him in reference to this incident.
5:20 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Vermont Route 12 South for a report of a suspicious motor vehicle complaint. Police were notified that a suspicious vehicle had followed the complainant from the Berlin Mall, and down I-89. Police staged on Vermont Route 12 South in an attempt to locate the vehicle, but the suspicious vehicle got off I- 89, and went towards Williamstown.
October 27
11:09 a.m. - Animal Problem - A resident of Northfield Falls came to the police department to advise that her 4 month old puppy had been attacked by two German shepherds. She reported that while she was walking with her dog on Chandler Road that the two shepherds came across the road to her. Before she realized that they would, they had the puppy and were hurting it. The little retriever has been to the Vet and will be ok with scars. Owner was located.
9:39 p.m. - Accident PD - Police discovered a one vehicle accident on Hallstrom Road. The vehicle left the roadway and was resting against a tree near the intersection of West Hill. The driver had left the area. The vehicle was towed by North Main Service. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. If anyone has any information concerning the accident please contact the Northfield Police Dept.
October 28
1:42 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Dogwood Glen for a suspicious incident. A resident called and reported that there were strange individuals in his apartment that were not leaving. Upon our arrival the strange individuals were not in the residence or outside. The complainant was disoriented and believed he might have been confused about what was happening.
1:42 p.m. - Citizen Assist - An officer received a call from a resident of Vermont Route 12A. He advised he had loaned a compound bow to a friend, who was not returning
it. I will attempt to get the bow back to the rightful owner.
9:20 p.m. - Burglary - Police received a phone call
from a resident stating that they believed someone may have attempted to gain entry into their residence through a window. A screen had been removed and thrown into the bushes. The caller stated that they do not believe entry was gained and wanted an officer to investigate. A time was set up for an officer to meet with the resident andstart an investigation.
