NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
January 14 10:20 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police were advised of a wounded young deer on Water Street near Terry Hill Road within the Town of Northfield. The situation was evaluated concerning the condition of the deer and determined that the only humane course of action would be to dispatch the deer to prevent any additional suffering.
January 15 6:54 a.m. - Accident PI - Police Department responded to a motor vehicle collision on North Main Street with reported injuries. Upon arrival, Police found that the two vehicles involved sustained substantial front end damage. Two individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment, and a crash report was completed for the operators involved. Both vehicles were inoperable and were towed from the scene. 8 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police were notified of two dogs outside at a residence on Cross Street. The dogs have been left in an outdoor fenced area. The caller was concerned as today the temperature is approximately 15 degrees below zero and the dogs were whining and barking. An officer was able to contact the owner of the dogs and he will return from work to put them inside.
January 16 12:32 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to Union Street for a complaint of loud music at a residence. Upon arrival, Police could not hear any noise, but spoke with the homeowner about the complaint. The resident denied having any loud music playing. Police could not detect any loud music coming from surrounding areas. No further action was taken. 4:38 a.m. - Citizen Assist - Police Department assisted two NAPA delivery truck drivers after their delivery truck became disabled at the NAPA auto parts store on Wall Street. Due to the frigid overnight temperatures, Police invited the men to the Police Department to keep warm and to they could make arrangements to have their vehicle fixed, and to arrange for their remaining deliveries to other parts of the state to continue. 6:53 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to University Drive for a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, Police found that a tractor trailer and a car collided when both were going around a corner. There were no injuries as a result of the collision. 2 p.m. - Lost Property - Police received a complaint of a lost wallet. The complainant advised that the wallet was last seen at her now exboyfriends residence and that when she retrieved her belongings from him it was no longer there. Police contacted the exboy friend and he advised that he and his family have searched the house but cannot locate the wallet. 4:03 p.m. - Fraud - Police received a complaint of check fraud. The complainant advised that a check was forged in his name and cashed at a business in Kentucky for the amount of $399.00. The complainant brought in an affidavit of check fraud from the bank along with a copy of the forged check. Police will be investigating. 4:31 p.m. - Citizen Assist Police responded to Union Street to assist a parent with her son who was not listening to her. Police spoke with the juvenile male and he decided that he would be better off listening to his mother than choosing one of the alternatives offered by police. No further action taken. 6:04 p.m. - Accident PD - Police took a call from an individual who said he hit the guardrails at Videos and More on North Main Street. The road was snow covered and he said he didn't have the proper tires for the conditions. There was no damage to the rail, but his car had enough front end damage that a wrecker was called. The male was issued a ticket for driving too fast for conditions. 9:09 p.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - Police, following an investigation cited 2 Northfield residents for Possession of Marijuana and Cultivation of Marijuana. After an investigation and execution of the search warrant, police seized a quantity of illegally possessed drugs and discovered a marijuana grow operation in its early stages. The two males are cited to appear at Washington County District Court in March. 10:18 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police spoke with a Vine Street resident in regards to a harassing phone complaint. Police spoke with the complainant and learned that an individual had been continuously calling and harassing him and his fiancée. Police contacted the caller and asked for the calls to cease, to which the caller agreed. No further complaints were received from the complainant and the harassing calls ceased. 11:26 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to Dogwood Glen for a noise complaint. Upon arrival officers found an underage party taking place. A woman, age 19, was arrested for enabling, minor in possession of alcohol, and violating her conditions of release from an earlier arrest. Three teens were issued paperwork to participate in the Teen Alcohol Safety Program.
January 17 4:20 p.m. - Accident PD - Police came across a one vehicle accident with no injuries. The operator stated that his vehicle went straight when he attempted to negotiate a corner and plowed into a snow bank. Upon further inspection of the vehicle, It was determined that approximately $1200.00 in damages occurred to the vehicle in the accident. The vehicle plowed into and onto a snow and ice pile. 9:11 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise disturbance on Wallace Road. The complainants advised that their neighbor was playing loud music and it was disturbing them. Upon arrival the music being played was found to be at a reasonable/acceptable level. Both parties were talked to about the situation.
January 18 3:45 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police assisted the Washington County Sheriff's Department at the Northfield Police Station on Wall Street. A Washington County Deputy Sheriff had arrested an individual on the Roxbury Mountain Road for DUI and needed to utilize the Northfield Police Department's facility for processing. Police assisted the Deputy, and the individual was processed for the offense of DUI. 4:13 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police assisted a motorist at the intersection of Vermont Route 64 and Vermont Route 12 South. The motorist had slid off the travel portion of the roadway and had become lodged in a snow bank. Via dispatch, Police contacted North Main Towing Service who responded and removed the vehicle. 8:42 a.m. - Parking Problem - A resident of Vermont Route 12 south called to report a vehicle blocking her driveway. The officer located the operator who moved the vehicle. 2:03 p.m. - MV Complaint - A resident of Pleasant Street called to report someone operating an ATV on the roadway. Upon arrival the officer sat down the road, and could not hear, nor see an ATV being operated on the roadway. The officer did speak with a juvenile who is known to have an ATV, and cautioned him not be riding in the roadway. 7:45 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police assisted a resident from Union Street pick up some of his personal belongings from a house that he had been living in. He was able to gather his stuff and leave without incident.
January 19 12:50 p.m. - Accident PD - A resident of Northfield Falls came to the police station to report finding damage on her car this morning. She advised the vehicle had been parked at a parking lot, and a note had been left on her windshield, but at the time she had not noticed the damage. The officer took pictures of the damage and will try to identify the other operator involved. 12:58 p.m.- Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A business on South Main Street called to report some suspicious activity regarding a client. The complainant provided some information about the client and an investigation into the accusations is under way. 9:20 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a residence on North Main Street for a reported physical altercation. Statements were gathered from witnesses and the investigation is ongoing. One subject had left the area but contacted police and advised he would provide a statement on Jan. 20, 2009.
January 20 2:20 a.m. - Vehicle towed - Police towed a vehicle that had been parked on Central Street violating the Winter Parking Ban. An attempt was made to contact the owner of the vehicle was unsuccessful. North Main Service came out and removed the vehicle. 9:45 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to a residence on Pearl Street for a reported suicide attempt. A resident had consumed alcohol and taken several pills (prescription medicine). She was transported to CVH by the Northfield Ambulance Service.
