Town Plan

TO THE EDITOR: THE NORTHFIELD NEWS THE PLAN is vague and ambiguous. I view this as Obama money and the plan revolves around spending it. We will have to pay the money back. This means an increase in taxes. There is nothing in the plan that creates sustainable jobs or an increase in revenue for Northfield.

We have a unique opportunity in the fact that the Town and University can be a showcase for the rest of the country.

If we (town and university) invest our money and establish our own power generation operation, we can have all of the items listed on the survey.

The generation plant would incorporate wind, solar and methane. The university would benefit academically: engineering, power generation, power transmission, environmental studies and even military applications. Norwich will also benefit financially because of much lower electric rates.

Northfield, town and residents, will benefit greatly. There will be sustainable jobs and a decrease in electric rates. The town's revenue would increase through the sale of the excess power that is generated with no need to increase taxes.

Tourism would also increase because of the interest people would have in such a project.

Local businesses would benefit with an increase in sales and a decrease in electric costs and taxes.

The rest of the plan would no longer be vague and ambiguous.
