NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

March 4

1:33 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police started an investigation concerning a subject who had been released by the court on Conditions of Release and was now in violation of at least one condition in Northfield. Police were able to locate the subject and determined that he in fact had not violated any condition of his release and that the person who called in the complaint must not have all the information correct.

March 5

5:31 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of North Main Street and Vine Street. The vehicle had been moved prior to the arrival of police. There were no injuries and minor damage.

March 6

2:51 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to Union Street for a reported noise complaint. Police located the residence that the noise was coming from and advised the tenants that they needed to tone it down. The tenants advised that they were going to bed and that there would be no more issues with them for the night.

2 a.m. - Suspicious Person/Circumstance - Officers responded to a residence on South Main Street for a welfare check. The complainant called from out of state to advise his son had phoned, but all he could hear was a scuffle in the background. Upon arrival officers determined the son was safe, and had been horsing around. It was also determined he was under the age of 21 and had been consuming alcohol. He was referred to the Teen Alcohol Safety Program.

10:54 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A resident of Berlin Pond Road contacted the Northfield Police Department concerning the mailbox in front of the residence had been struck and damaged. A followup investigation with the complainant revealed that a vehicle had slid off the roadway and hit the mailbox by accident. The responsible party contacted the property owner and will fix the damage.

March 7

7 a.m. - DUI - A man, 56, of Northfield, was cited for DUI. He was stopped for traffic violations on VT RT 12 S. During the investigation he was asked to perform the sobriety exercises. He also submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .132 BAC. He was transported to the Northfield Police Department for processing and released with a citation to appear at District Court for DUI. (Press Release sent)

9:47 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department received a report of a theft from a Depot Square residence. Police met with the complainant and asked him to complete a sworn, written statement about the incident. A suspect was identified, and Police are currently investigating the incident and the circumstances leading up to it.

11:53 a.m. - MV Complaint - Officers observed a vehicle with a known operator and passenger, who had three outstanding arrest warrants. While attempting to stop the vehicle on Vt Rt 64, the operator attempted to elude the officer by driving south on I89. Pursuing her to the Rest Area in Randolph, Anna McDaniel, 23, stopped. She was cited for Attempting to Elude, C & N, and Harboring a Fugitive. The passenger, John Jarvis, 29, was taken into custody and lodged on the arrest warrants.

5:47 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police took a ATV complaint from a tenant living in rental housing advised of an ATV riding on the property and doing some lawn damage. Tenant was advised to have the landlord get in contact with the police for further action.

March 8

4:32 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received information about criminal activity at a residence on Expansion Lane. Northfield Police, in conjunction with the Vermont State Police, conducted an investigation, which led to the execution of a search warrant. A press release, in conjunction with a related incident involving the Northfield Police and the Vermont State Police, will be released at a later date.

8:36 p.m. - Citizen Assist - The department was contacted by a citizen that had been locked inside a business when it closed. The officer contacted the business owner to release the confined individual.

March 9

12:20 a.m. - Sexual Assault - Police responded to a residence in Northfield Falls for a reported sexual assault. A man, 36, of Northfield was cited into district court for Sexual Assault.

8:31 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department responded in the Northfield Falls for a report of a suspicious circumstance. The complainant advised that an individual was inside the complainant's residence, and was not supposed to be there. Police responded and determined that the individual was OK to be there, and that all was in good order.

8:58 a.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to a two car motor vehicle crash at the junction of VT Rt 64 and 12. Veh.#1 was traveling west on Highway 64 and lost control striking a truck in the other lane. The truck saw the

vehicle losing control and pulled over to the side of the road. The driver of Veh. 1 was transported to CVH and later released. Veh. 1 was totaled, Veh. 2 received damage to the front bumper.

11:41 a.m. - Lost Property - The department received a call from a citizen that had lost his driver's license sometime in the last week or so. He had not used it for a short period of time, and then when he wanted to use it, he could not locate it. Not sure where or how it was misplaced. Probably when he used it for an ID to make a purchase.

12:57 p.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - Police responded to the high school when officials there found a juvenile, 14, with marijuana. An officer spoke with the juvenile in the presence of his mother and he admitted to possession of marijuana. He was cited into court in early April and released to his mother.

3:12 p.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - An officer received a check that had been returned to a local business for insufficient funds. The officer is attempting to locate the maker of the check to resolve the financial obligation. If the responsible party does not meet this requirement, charges could be filed with the States Attorneys office for a Bad Check or Theft of Services.

3:57 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to Pleasant Street to assist a citizen. Due to an ongoing citizen dispute, an involved party requested that a notice against trespass be issued to a neighbor. Police responded and issued the notice without incident. Copies of the notice were provided to the appropriate individuals.

10:46 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Cross Street for a noise complaint. A resident believed that his neighbor's dogs had been left outside with no food or water. The dog owner was home and advised that the animals had everything they needed. He said that he would bring them

inside for the night.

March 10

1:06 p.m. - Dead Body - Police responded to Shaw Circle for a welfare check. Neighbors became concerned when mail began piling up at the residence. Police responded and found that the resident had passed away. Police conducted an investigation with the Vermont Medical Examiners Office, and it was determined that the death was not suspicious, and the resident appeared to have passed away due to natural causes.

2:40 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a call about suspicious circumstances from a North Main Street resident. Police noted the suspicious circumstances in the event there are any incidents that arise. No further action was taken or needed at the time.

2:41 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - An officer was dispatched to a custody dispute within Dogwood Glen. The report was that a Grandfather would not return a child to his mother. Upon arrival the officer made contact with both parties who were arguing over the conditions of the apartment. The officer advised the Grandfather that he would not be able to keep the child and that his step-daughter agreed to clean the apartment.

4:58 p.m. -Agency Assistance - Police responded to Water Street to dispatch a deer for the Vermont Fish and Wildlife

Department. Upon arrival, it was apparent that the deer had been struck by a vehicle and was suffering. To end the deer's suffering, an officer dispatched it. The deer was left for a Vermont Fish and Wildlife Game Warden to pick up at a later time.
