NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

March 11

8:41 a.m. - Juvenile Problem - A parent from the Falls mobile Home Park called in reference to verbal statements an adult was making towards a young teenager at the local bus stop. The parent was advised of alternatives available to prevent the verbal contact.

2:44 p.m. - Animal Problem - The department was advised of two dogs on Byam Hill. The dogs were barking. The caller wanted to have the owner of the dogs quiet the dogs. The owner was contacted and the dogs were taken inside.

March 12

11:22 a.m. - Threatening - Police commenced an investigation following a complaint concerning threatening over the "Computer" as well as other electronic communication devices. the case is currently under investigation.

2:17 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police took a complaint in reference to a barking dog as well as running at large. The owner of the dogs was identified and spoken with concerning the matter.

3:40 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police took a complaint from a concerned citizen concerning an ongoing animal cruelty investigation in which the owner of the animals made phone contact with the citizen and the caller was threatening. An investigator from the Humane Society responded to the residence. The on duty officer was assisting another citizen and was unable to meet at the residence with the investigator and landlord.

11:44 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to a residence on Jarvis Lane for a noise complaint. Upon arrival the officers could not hear any noise emanating from the residence, however noted that several people were up. The officers spoke with the residents and advised them of the complaint.

March 13

3:29 p.m. - Accident PI - Police, Fire and rescue responded to the area of Norwich (South Main Street) for a reported motor vehicle crash in which a pole had been struck and the air bags had been deployed. Upon arrival, the investigation showed a single vehicle had drifted off to the right side of the roadway striking a wooden marker post causing the vehicles air bags to deploy. Seatbelts were in use, minor injuries caused by air bags deploying.

March 14

12:12 a.m. - DUI - Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on North Main Street. The operator was found to be drinking but would not take a breath test roadside. She was taken into custody and processed, but when found to be under the legal limit, given a ticket for speeding and released. The registration on her vehicle had expired, so it was towed, and she made arrangements to have it towed home.

1:08 a.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer assisted the Vermont State Police with a high speed pursuit. The accused was attempting to elude a Vermont State Trooper on the interstate, traveling in excess of 100 mph when he got off at exit 5. The Northfield Officer intercepted the accused at the intersection of VT Rte 12, and VT Rte 64. The accused continued onto Lover's Lane, where he finally stopped and was taken into custody for multiple charges.

2:49 a.m. - DLS - A Northfield man arrested for driving while his license was criminally suspended. He was processed at the Northfield Police Station, and released with a citation to appear in Washington District court on Thursday April 23, 2009.

March 15

12:32 a.m. - DUI - A man, age 23, of Waitsfield, VT was arrested for suspicion of DUI. A Northfield Police Officer was working a detail for the Governor's Highway Safety Program DUI Mobilization. The man was stopped on Vermont Route 62 in Barre for having a defective taillight. The officer administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Exercises. A preliminary breath test which indicated a result of 0.197%Brac.

12:54 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a residence on Water Street for a noise disturbance. The tenant was asked to keep the music down. Nothing further.

11:24 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to Vermont Route 12A for a report of a vehicle rollover. Upon arrival, it was determined that a vehicle had lost control on the icy roadway, struck a snowbank and then overturned. The operator was not injured as a result of the crash. A crash report was completed for the operator and the vehicle was removed by a local towing service. AOT responded and sanded the roadway.

12:04 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police Department spoke with an East Street resident about concerns surrounding a noise complaint. Police addressed the concerns with the resident, and ultimately the decision was made

by the resident to speak with the others involved about the noise.

4:35 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Cross Street for animal complaint. Upon arrival, Police attempted to speak with the residents about the complaint, but they were not home. Police were able to see the animals in question, and they did not appear to be endangered. Police will follow up with the owners about the complaint.

7:39 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the Falls Trailer Park for a report of a stolen dog. An officer met with the complainant and statements were completed. A possible suspect was named. An investigation is underway.

March 16

8:12 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police assisted a motorist on US Route 2 in East Montpelier. While en route to Northfield, an Officer located a vehicle resting on its rear axle, and with a flat tire. The Officer contacted AAA and a wrecker was dispatched to the scene. Upon their arrival, the wrecker operator changed the tire for the operator. Police stood by until the tire was changed, and then returned to Northfield without incident.

9:57 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of a suspicious circumstance from a Water Street resident. The resident advised that he found a hypodermic needle, and wanted to dispose of it properly. Police took custody of it, and determined it to be the type used to inject insulin. It did not appear to have been used for any illicit drugs. The needle was destroyed.

2:03 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to Central Street to assist the Northfield Ambulance Service. It was reported that an elderly gentleman had fallen on the sidewalk and was bleeding from his head. An officer was in the area and responded. Upon arrival, the officer helped to control the bleeding from the gentleman's head until the ambulance arrived. Upon their arrival, the gentleman was transported to the hospital.

6:10 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police received a complaint from a resident on Main Street. The resident wanted to complain about phone calls he was receiving late at night from a company attempting to refinance his vehicle. The caller stated that he did not own a vehicle. The caller was given advise on how to handle the calls.

March 17

10:30 a.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police started an investigation into the passing of a bad check to a local merchant.

11:15 a.m. - Litter/Pollution/ Public Health - Police started an investigation concerning the dumping of several bags of household trash. The contents of the trash revealed the owner and the matter is currently under active investigation.

1 p.m. - Theft - A citizen came to the Northfield Police Department and reported that while on the internet ordering an item, his bank account was charged for items he did not order. The banks were advised of the situation and the matter was corrected. An identity theft report was filled with this department to be kept on file and the credit reporting agencies were advised of the breach.

5:15 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police spoke with several young adults of high school age who were reported as being unsafe with their skateboards. The young adults were identified and advised to use better judgment.
