NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

March 18

11:38 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A Northfield resident contacted police concerning a cigarette butt left in her RFD mail box and also a envelope that had been marked "return to sender" after the envelope had been delivered to her mail box. The matter is under investigation.

1:13 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a citizens complaint concerning a domestic violence situation on South Main Street. Police responded and spoke with a female who advised she had been assaulted with a motor vehicle by her former boyfriend who fled the scene. The victim did not require medical treatment. The case is under active investigation.

5:11 p.m. Accident PD - Concerned citizens came forward concerning an unattended motor vehicle being struck by a passing motor vehicle on South Main Street. The investigation appears that a vehicle headed North on South Main Street had hit the parked vehicle "Mirror to Mirror" but failed to stop and report the accident. The vehicle and operator responsible for the damage were located. The operator was unaware of the contact damage to the other vehicle.

March 19

3:10 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police Department responded to Cross Street for an animal complaint. A neighbor reported that two dogs were left outside without water for two hours. Police responded and found two dogs outside in a fenced backyard. Police were able to make contact with the residents. Police advised the residents of the complaint, and they advised they would correct the issue surrounding their dogs.

9:53 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to Asletine Road for a reported vehicle stuck in the roadway with young kids acting suspicious near the vehicle. When Police arrived, the vehicle had= already been pulled out and the Northfield Police Cruiser ended up getting stuck in the deep ruts and mud. North Main Service responded and towed the cruiser out.

March 20

1:13 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to the area of Byam Hill for a report of juveniles operating unregistered dirt bikes in the public highway and one without a helmet. Police responded to the area and located one juvenile who was released to his parent and advised concerning the operation of dirt bikes on pubic highways.

3:24 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a report of a Motor Vehicle Crash and upon arrival it was determined a dog had been struck and killed by a motor vehicle who failed to stop and left the scene. The dog was removed from the roadway by several good samaritans. The dog owner was located and took possession of the dog.

9:08 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police stopped a vehicle on Rte. 12 North for doing 48 in a 35 zone. At the time of the stop, it was determined that the vehicle was not currently registered. The operator received a ticket for no registration and the vehicle was towed by North Main Service. The operator received a written warning for the speed violation.

11:58 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to a residence on Water Street for the report of a noise complaint. Upon arrival officers could hear loud noise emanating from the residence from down the street. Officers spoke with the four tenants, who were hosting a party. The tenants had received prior warnings for noise complaints, and were issued Municipal ordinance violations.

March 21

2:15 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to a residence on Union Street for a noise complaint. The complainant advised the upstairs tenant, was banging around loudly unnecessarily. Upon speaking with the upstairs tenant, she advised she had been sleeping for approximately an hour, and did not recall hearing any loud noises. She advised she was home alone.

4:52 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A citizen called in reference to his missing cats. Advised subject that they may be hiding on him and that they are not missing but just can not find them.

March 22

3:34 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police received a report of a juvenile problem on Western Avenue. Police were advised by the complainant that her young son was bullied by other youths in the area on the day prior, as well as that afternoon. Police spoke with the complainant and the youth about the complaint and gathered the relevant information to start an investigation.

March 23

7:04 a.m. - Burglary - The department was notified of a breaking and entering at a business on North Main Street. The employee had just arrived to work and found merchandise rearranged. When the officer arrived on the scene, he and the owner were able to determine where the intruders entered and what items were missing. If anyone has any information regarding this or any other suspicious activity, please call the Northfield Police at 485-9181.

4:48 p.m. - Found Property - Police responded to Slate Avenue to meet with a resident. The resident had found a blue Motorola TalkAbout radio on South Main Street and wanted to turn it in. Police checked the wanted and stolen databases for the radio but it was clear. If anyone is missing a radio, please contact the Northfield Police Department at 802-485-9181 to speak with Officer Chris Quesnel.

10:15 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to a business on Belknap Street to assist with a subject who was getting out of control and had possibly taken too much prescription medication. Upon arrival the subject was calm but confused. The subject was transported to CVH by Northfield Ambulance Service to be evaluated.

March 24

9 a.m. - Suspicious Person/Circumstance - Police received a complaint of a possible theft of gasoline from a parked motor vehicle on Vermont Route 12 South. It was believed that the theft may have occurred at some point over the past few days. If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area, please call the Northfield Police Department at 802-485-9181.
