Women Cadets Win Three In Lacrosse

POULTNEY - Ashley Haviland scored a game-high five goals, and Kelly Bush netted four goals as the Norwich University women's lacrosse team cruised past Green Mountain College, 20-7, in a non-league match Wednesday afternoon.
The Cadets (3-1) outscored the Eagles, 12-2, in the second half to turn a competitive game into a rout. Ally Daniels added three goals and two assists, while Kacey Abbriano chipped in two goals and a game-high three assists.
Danielle Del Dotto contributed two goals and one assist, while Mollie Fitzpatrick potted two goals. Chelsea Martin (one goal, one assist) and Jillian Balasco (one goal) both got into the scoring column as well.
The Eagles (2-3) were led by Celie Dagesse and Amanda Jeffers, who each scored two goals apiece.
Earlier last week, Kacey Abbriano, Mollie Fitzpatrick and Danielle Del Dotto each scored three goals apiece to lead the Norwich University women's lacrosse team past Pine Manor College, 16-10, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup.
Abbriano added two assists, and Del Dotto handed out one assist. Ally Daniels (two goals, one assist) and Kelly Bush (two goals) were instrumental in the victory as well. Chelsea Martin, Kathleen Hennessy and Laurel Adams each added one goal and one assist.
Jillian Balasco, Alyssa Nicoloro, Whitney Brown, Dawn McNulty, Lori Baldassara and Nora Osinski each chipped in one assist apiece.
Four different Norwich players saw time in the Cadets' net. Kellie Pickel started the game in goal and got the victory.
Then, in a home game last Friday, Ally Daniels scored a gamehigh six goals and added a game-best three assists as the Norwich University women's lacrosse defeated St. Joseph's (Maine), 23-10, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.
The Cadets blew open a close game by outscoring the Monks, 12-3, in the second half. It marked the fourth straight win for the Cadets, who improve to 4-1 (3-0 GNAC).
Danielle Del Dotto added four goals for Norwich, while Chelsea Martin chipped in three goals. Kacey Abbriano posted two goals and two assists, while Laurel Adams contributed two goals. Ashley Haviland (one goal, two assists), Kathleen Hennessy (one goal, two assists), Katie Magnus (one goal), Suzanne Whitaker (one goal), Hailey Ribeiro (one goal), Whitney Brown (one goal) and Kelly Bush (one assist) rounded out the list of Norwich players in the scoring column.
Daniels scored three of her six goals in the first 13:19 as the Cadets raced out to a 7-1 lead. Alyssa Marchant netted three goals of her own during a span of 8:13 to help fuel a 5-1 St. Joseph's (Maine) run that pulled the Monks to within 8-6 at the 7:05 mark of the first half.
Norwich closed the opening stanza on a 3-1 spurt to take an 11-7 lead into halftime. Martin capped the run with a goal just eight seconds prior to intermission.
The Cadets outscored the Monks 9-1 over the first 11:11 of the second half to take a commanding 20-8 lead at the 18:49 mark. Daniels finished the burst by scoring a pair of goals in a span of 11 seconds.
The Monks (3-3, 0-2 GNAC) were led by Marchant, who finished with four goals Jaimee Brett (three goals) and Lizzie Farley (two goals) were key contributors for the Monks as well.
Kellie Pickel (4-0) played the first 21:30 in the Norwich goal and picked up the win. Allison Taylor (3-3) made 16 saves in the losing effort for St. Joseph's (Maine). She went the full 60 minutes in the cage for the Monks.
Norwich outshot St. Joseph's (Maine), 51-20. The Cadets held a 67-36 edge in groundballs.
