NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

April 8

7:17 a.m. - Citizen Assist - A citizen called requesting an officer because another citizen was on his property and he wanted him to leave. The officer was called out and he responded to the Stony Brook Residence. He talked with both parties and a Notice against Trespass was served.

6:20 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to Belknap Street for a dispute between neighboring tenants. The complainant was advising that her neighbor was in the hall harassing her as she attempted to locate her cat. The complainant advised that she was pushed during the altercation by her neighbor. The neighbor denied touching her and stated it was a verbal dispute only.

6:45 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police received a complaint of ongoing phone harassment. The complainant has advised that it has been going on for some time and would like it to end. The description that the complainant gave sounded like a stalking issue and Police advised her to obtain a relief from abuse order on this individual. Police will be meeting with the complainant later in the week when she is available.

April 9

7:26 a.m. - Animal Problem - Officers responded to the area of Union Street for the report of a moose running loose. Officers assisted in keeping traffic flowing smoothly, and tried to assist the young moose return towards the river.

2:05 p.m. - Parking Problem - Police responded to the area of Pearl Street concerning a citizens complaint of vehicles that were parked in the No Parking zone. One vehicle was found to be in violation and was given a parking ticket.

8:09 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to Northfield Falls for a report of a moose blocking traffic on Rte. 12 North. The Moose was reported to be possibly injured but was gone from the area when police arrived and a search of the area did not turn up a moose. This is the time of year when moose are migrating and they tend to travel a lot at night. Moose are difficult to see at night so please stay alert and slow down at night.

April 10

3:41 a.m. - Intoxicated Person - Officers responded to a local educational establishment for the report of an intoxicated male. Upon arrival officers identified the male as being under the age of 21. He was issued a referral to the Washington County Teen Alcohol Safety Program. He was also medically screened by members of the Northfield Volunteer Ambulance Service who were summoned by Norwich Security.

6:51 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to Byam Hill Road in Northfield Vermont for a report of young kids riding motorcycle on a public highway. Police waited for the cyclist to return and advised them that it was a crime to be operating on a public highway without licenses, registrations, insurance and multiple other equipment issues for the bikes. The offenders stated it would not happen again. No further action taken.

8:34 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police received a complaint of phone harassment. The complainant advised that they have received two blocked calls with a male voice saying obscene things to his wife and himself.

The complainant was advised on how to trap a call and was given statement form to be filled out and dropped off the next regarding this incident.

April 11

12:06 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to a residence on King Street for the report of a noise complaint. Upon arrival officers could hear loud voices and laughter from down the street. Officers checked with dispatch and the residents had no prior warnings or tickets for noise disturbances. The residents was issued a written warning for the noise. Officers further explained that future complaints would result in a $100.00 ordinance violation.

1:06 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - A vehicle was stopped by Police for operating without headlights. At the time of the stop, police detected an odor of intoxicants coming from the vehicle. Both the operator and the passenger where under the age of 21. Both admitted to consuming alcohol at a party. The operator had a BAC of .007% and the passenger had a BAC of .065%. Both received paperwork for the teen alcohol safety program.

2:54 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - Police stopped a vehicle for speeding on South Main Street. The vehicle was occupied by 8 individuals and a strong odor of intoxicants was emitting from the vehicle. There were three individuals in the vehicle that were under 21 including the operator. All had been consuming alcohol and all three received teen alcohol safety paperwork.

9:38 a.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police Department received a report of a phone complaint from a Vermont Route 12 A resident. Police spoke with the individual and found that he had received a harassing phone call overnight on his cellular phone. Police obtained a written, sworn statement about the complaint and are investigating the incident.

April 12

1:31 a.m. - DUI - A man was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Chris was stopped on Wall Street for operating without headlights. The officer could smell a strong odor of intoxicants while speking with the suspect. The suspect performed the SFST's and submitted a PBT which indicated a 0.148%Brac. He was transported to the Station where he submitted a to an evidentiary test indicating 0.140%BAC. He was released on a citation.

3:33 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to I-89 North for a report of a possible intoxicated operator traveling north from Mile marker 33. The vehicle was reported to be operating with its 4 way flashers on and being all over the road. Police located the vehicle and the operator was not intoxicated. Warnings issued for failure to maintain proper lane and defective equipment.

7:41 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a residence on Union Street for a noise disturbance. The music had been turned down prior to officers arriving on scene. A written warning was issued. No further action was necessary.

8:18 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to Norwich University for a reported theft. A student returned to his dorm after being gone for the weekend and discovered some of his personal belongings had been stolen. There was no sign of forced entry into his room. A possible suspect has been identified and an investigation is underway.

8:43 p.m. - MV Complaint Police responded to a motor vehicle complaint on VT RT 12 South. A motorist had pulled over to the side of he road and gotten stuck due to the soft shoulder. North Main Service was ble to pull the vehicle back onto the roadway.

April 13

7:55 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Harmon Drive for a report of a possible burglary at an academic building. Upon arrival, Police met with Security personnel and examined the scene. Police and Security Officials are conducted further investigation into the incident.

2:15 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police received a report of a citizen dispute on Stony Brook Road. Upon arrival, Police located the individuals involved, and found that nothing physical occurred, and the incident consisted of only a verbal argument. Police stood by while the parties separated for the evening.

2:43 p.m. - Fraud - Police received a report of a fraud complaint from a Kirkpatrick Lane resident. Police made contact with the resident and reviewed the complaint. Due to the fact that the incident occurred beyond the borders of Vermont, Federal law enforcement was also advised. Further investigation is pending at this time.
