NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
April 15
5:34 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A local business that redeems bottles and cans called concerning a group of individuals who were bring in out of state bottles and cans that do not have a Vermont stamp for redemption. Northfield Police are looking into this matter.
8:59 p.m. - 911 Hangup Call - Police responded to 58 Depot Square for a 911 hang up call. The female caller called and advised that she had fallen and broken her finger in three places and that she wanted 911 to leave a message with her doctor advising him of this. The caller did not want an ambulance and hung up. Police located the caller and she did have a broken finger and was also intoxicated. She still refused medical treatment.
April 16
9:21 a.m. - Child Abuse or Neglect - Police commenced an investigation following a report from DCF concerning the mistreatment of a child. the case is under investigation.
10:27 p.m. - Wanted Person - A man, 32, of North Port Florida, was arrested on fugitive from justice and failure to register as a sex offender charges after being stopped for speeding on Rte. 12A in Northfield. He was arrested on a warrant out of Stone County Missouri for failure to appear, failure to register and a underlying offence involving a child. He is being held on $10,000.00 bail and will be arraigned on 4-17-09
11:16 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - An officer responded to a residence for the report of a domestic assault complaint. Upon arrival the officer could hear no yelling or arguing. The officer could see one person on a couch watching T.V. The officer spoke with the parties and they advised nothing had occurred. The apartment was unremarkable. No Bruises or marks were observed on either party.
April 17
10:26 a.m. - Trespassing - Police initiated an investigation following a citizens complaint concerning an ongoing trespass situation. The matter is currently under investigation and police are awaiting sworn written statement from the parties involved.
1:49 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police were advised by a cell phone caller concerning erratic motor vehicle operation on Vt Rt 64 in Northfield. The caller advised that the vehicle was all over the road and had crossed the center line several times. Police responded to the area and the vehicle was found to be gone from the area upon arrival.
4:26 p.m. - Litter/Pollution/Public Health - Police were notified by a resident that a plastic truck door panel was found at the foot of his drive way and appeared sometime early morning. Police are tracking the ownership of the property via information found inside the door wells. Enforcement action is expected.
6:47 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer observed a vehicle with a cracked windshield and noted that the three occupants were not wearing safety belts. The operator only had a learner's permit, and the other two occupants were criminally suspended. The operator was issued a ticket for restrictions on a learner's permit, along with the safety belt violation, and a warning for defective equipment, and a passenger issued a ticket for consuming alcohol.
8:12 p.m. - ATV Incident - An officer responded to a report of individuals riding ATVs on Burnham Rd. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the individuals who were pushing a nonmotorized small atv and a look a like dirt bike. Officer reminded them about the use of ATVs on public road.
9:39 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a complaint of a neighbor burning garbage. When Police arrived, the fire was already out. The complainant advised that this happened all last summer and that he has no intentions of smelling burning garbage all this summer. I advised the complainant to contact the town fire warden when this is occurring.
10:39 p.m. - Alcohol Offense - An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on North Main Street near Summer St. The operator was discovered to be the designated driver. However, four passengers in the car, and another found in the trunk, were all found to be underage, and had been drinking. All five were issued paperwork to participate in the Teen Alcohol Safety Program, and released. The sober driver was issued a warning for speed, and thanked for being a designated driver.
April 18
12:10 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - Officers responded to a report of a citizen dispute on central Street. Upon arrival, officers founds the parties who were involved in the dispute. During the investigation, officers found two underage individuals who were intoxicated. The individuals were referred to the alcohol safety program. The dispute was verbal.
2:50 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer was parked operating stationary radar when he saw an intoxicated individual walking north on Route 12. A car pulled up and a male jumped out, and the car drove off. The officer heard the males arguing so interceded. It was discovered that a verbal altercation had taken place, everything had calmed down, and the second male was trying to convince the first male to return home.
11:19 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police stopped a vehicle a vehicle for having a tail light out. When Police checked the operators information, she was found to be under suspension in Vermont and New York for unpaid fines. Ticket's were issued for operating after suspension and for no insurance. Warning's were issued for failure to carry registration certificate and defective equipment. The vehicle was towed by North Main Service.
April 19
12:52 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - Police stopped two vehicles on VT Rte. 12A for doing 41 in a posted 30 mph zone. Vehicle one had eight occupants and a strong odor of intoxicants emitting form the vehicle. Vehicle two had four occupants with and odor of intoxicants emitting from the vehicle. Four people under the age of twenty one were found to have consumed alcohol and were issued alcohol diversion paperwork.
1:44 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police stopped a vehicle for doing 39 mph in a 30 zone and for crossing the center line. Police detected an odor of intoxicants and the operator refused to submit to standardized field sobriety exercise. The defendant was taken into custody and was later released with a BAC of .000%. The operator stated that he had been drinking earlier and was afraid he may have been over the legal limit.
7:04 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to the area of North Street for an animal complaint. A stray dog had been in the area all day and was causing a problem with some of the other neighborhood dogs. The dog was caught with the help of several residents and taken to Baroffio's kennel.
8:35 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the Falls Mobile home park for the report of a brush fire. Upon arrival the Fire Dept had already responded and had everything under control. The fire warden was notified. No police action was taken.
April 20
11:52 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police were requested to respond to Crescent Avenue for a report of a disorderly individual. Police responded to the area, but were unable to locate the individual in question.
April 21
7:16 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a motor vehicle complaint on South Main Street. The caller advised that a passing vehicle had struck his vehicle in front of Norwich University. The other vehicle was not identified. The caller later met with Police and it was determined that there was no damage to his vehicle, but the passing vehicle had lost its mirror during the collision. The mirror was given to Police.
11:12 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police met with a Terry Hill Road resident about a suspicious motor vehicle complaint. The resident advised that on the night prior, a truck was witnessed driving up and down the road multiple times. The resident found this to be unusual and out of the ordinary. Police will be conducting increased patrols in the area.
