Cadets Take Johnson, Fall To Springfield In Lacrosse, 3-8 On Season

Springfield defeated Norwich last Wednesday at Howard field by a score of 24-3 Ryan Thibodeau scored three goals and had one assist, and Jake Beebe tallied two goals and three assists as Springfield College rolled past Norwich University, 24-3, in a Pilgrim League men's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon at Howard Field.
The Pride (8-5, 6-0 Pilgrim League) led 10-1 after the first quarter and held a 19-1 halftime advantage before throttling back the offensive attack in the second half.
Jarrid Johnson (two goals, two assists), Kyle Gable (two goals, one assist), Joe Macchi (two goals), Pat Cavanaugh (two goals), Eric Basalov (two goals) and Jake Jones (two goals) were key to the Springfield offensive attack as well.
Norwich (3-8, 0-6 Pilgrim League) was paced by Kyle Marzeoti, who scored all three goals for the Cadets. Craig Van Yahres added one assist for NU.
Springfield outshot Norwich 48-15. The Pride won 22-of-31 faceoffs in the game.
However, it was different earlier in the week when Patrick Sikora scored four goals to help lead the team to a 7-6 victory over Johnson State College on Monday afternoon at Minaert Field.
Norwich (3-7) outshot Johnson 28-26, and won the groundball battle 35-33. Johnson falls to 6-3 overall following the loss.
The Cadets struck first at the 7:35 mark of the first period when Sikora scored the first goal of the day. JSC took a 4-3 lead into halftime behind a pair of goals from Billy Noyes and one each from Erik Tillberg and Steve Noyes.
Norwich held the Badgers to only six shots during a scoreless third period for JSC as the Cadets surged ahead 5-4 behind another Sikora goal and one from Craig Van Yahres.
Despite fourth period goals from Steve and Billy Noyes, JSC could not close the gap as Sikora's fourth goal of the day with 5:09 remaining gave the Cadets a two-goal lead and turned out to be the winning tally.
Norwich goalkeepers Ryan Leroux and Nathan Proctor combined to make 11 saves in the Cadets' cage, while Johnson's Brendan Sawyer made 12 saves.
