NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
April 22
5:34 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - The department was advised of damage to parked vehicles. The offenders were two young males throwing rocks. The officers talked with the victims and the mothers of the young children. An agreement between all parties was made for the cost of the damage.
11:06 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A resident of Hallstrom Road called to report some suspicious activity on her computer. The officer requested the complainant bring a copy of this activity to the police station, which to date she has yet to do. The investigation is on hold pending this information.
April 23
7:24 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to Belknap Ave. for a reported citizen dispute. Police spoke with both parties about their problem. It was suggested that they stay away from each other.
April 24
7:55 a.m. - Theft - A resident of Dogwood Glen called to report a suspicious circumstance. The officer has set up an interview with a subject and the investigation is ongoing.
12:06 p.m. - Disorderly Conduct/ Noise - Police received a report of an incident on Belknap Street. Police met with a resident and found that a neighbor had a tempted to engage her in a physical confrontation. The incident was also witnessed by an off-duty police officer. Police are currently investigating the incident.
2:22 p..m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of an animal complaint on Stoney Brook Road. It was advised that two dogs were running loose in the area. Police made contact with the owners so they could resecure their animals.
7:10 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Norwich University for a report of a cell phone being stolen from a locker. The complainant advised that he locked it in his locker and when he returned later, it was missing. If anyone happens to locate a silver Blackberry phone, please contact the Northfield Police Department.
10:22 p.m. - DUI - Police stopped a man, age 20, of Northfield for defective equipment. His windshield was broken and a taillight was out. While speaking with the man, the officer detected an odor of intoxicating beverage. During the process he was given the appropriate paperwork and released, which included a citation for Possession of Malt Beverage.
April 25
12:41 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - Police stopped a vehicle on Rte. 12 South for doing 50 in a 40 mph zone. Police detected an odor of intoxicants emitting from the operator. The operator performed the standardized sobriety exercises and at 00:46 hour he had a BAC of .032%. The operator received alcohol diversion worksheet, a civil DUI ticket and a ticket for doing 50 in a 40 zone.
April 25
8:47 p.m. - Illegal Burning - Police received a complaint of illegal burning on Cross Street. When Police arrived, the fire had gone out and no violation was observed.
9:28 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of suspicious youths hanging out in front of the Grand Union. Police responded and located the youths and had them remove them selves from the area. Police stood by why the store manager secured the building for the night. No further action taken.
April 26
10:40 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police were advised of a motor vehicle complaint on Freeman Road. Police learned that sometime overnight the operators of an unidentified truck had 'torn up' the roadway and part of a ditch adjacent to the roadway. Police responded to the area and surveyed the damage. Contact was made with the Northfield Highway Department to repair the damages to the roadway surface.
5 p.m. - Suspicious Person/Circumstance - Police received a report of unauthorized usage of a Norwich University student's credit card. Police met with the student about the incident and gathered information to begin an investigation. It was believed that another student had used his card to purchase items at different stores in the area. Police are investigating the incident further.
April 27
9:12 a.m. - Parking Problem - Police received a report of a parking problem on South Main Street. A business owner reported that a vehicle had been parked in the same parking spot for many days, which was in violation of the posted parking signs. Police responded, verified the same, and issued a parking violation.
11:34 a.m. - Fraud Police received a report of fraud from a Garvey Hill Road resident. The caller advised that she noticed fraudulent activity on her credit report, and needed to file a police report. At this time Police are awaiting the documents that the caller will be dropping off for the case.
2:20 p.m. - Parking Problem - Police were notified of a parking problem on Prospect Street. A truck was parked at the end of the roadway, blocking access to a gated property. The truck was ticketed, and at the request of the property owner, the operator was issued a Notice Against Trespass for the property.
5:04 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of a suspicious circumstance on Winter Street. The resident reported witnessing uniformed Norwich University Cadets pushing a cannon up the hillside. The resident was concerned that if they shoot the cannon, that it will catch the dry grass and woods on fire. Police took the information and passed his concerns on to officials on
campus at Norwich University. that the dispute was only verbal. Both residents were asked to leave each other alone.
April 28
4:05 a.m. - Citizen Assist - Police assisted a resident by transporting her to CVH. A resident was experiencing some emotional issues and wanted to speak with someone. A mental health screener was contacted and the resident was transported to CVH.
9:12 a.m. l- Juvenile Problem - Police responded to Vine Street for a truancy complaint. Upon arrival, Police were not able to make contact with the residents. Contact was made later in the afternoon, and it was found that the child had gone to school around 09:30. No further action was taken or needed.
