NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

April 29

7:31 p.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint of a stolen license plate from a trailer. The complainant advised that the boat and trailer was being stored at his sons place of business and sometime during the past month, someone stole the registration plate from the trailer.

April 30

8:11 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to a dog barking complaint. Upon the arrival of the officer that dog had already been taken inside and the disturbance had ended.

11:02 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Northfield Jr and Sr High School and commenced an investigation following a complaint from School administrators who had detected graffiti within the building that was suspicious by definition. The graffiti was vague and included the word "Bomb". The building was evacuated and searched. Police did collect evidence from the scene. Classes resumed following the search.

May 1

8:19 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police were advised of several dogs running at large. The owner of the dogs was contacted by police and the dogs were secured. A written warning was issued by police to the dog owner.

6:51 p.m. - Litter/Pollution/Public Health - Police responded to Vine Street for a report of littering. The complainant advised that his niece observed trash being thrown from a vehicle that was parked at the Catholic Church. The complainant recognized the vehicle and operator and contacted the Northfield Police Department. Police located the offender who denied throwing the trash and a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint was issued for littering.

8:56 p.m. - Fraud - Police received a complaint of a credit card being used fraudulently without the owners consent. The complainant advised that someone took her credit card from her room and used it at the campus book store. The credit card was then returned to the room and no other charges were made.

8:57 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of a person throwing a water balloon into a student's room damaging a computer and components. The complainant did not know who threw the balloon but stated that his computer and other accessories where damaged to a total of $834.97. The complainant wanted a report for insurance purposes.

10:57 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to Central Street for a report of a party with loud music. When Police arrived, they did not observe the loud noise. Police spoke with the resident that the noise was reportedly coming from and advised them to keep it down so not to upset the neighbors.

May 2

1:46 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - Police in conjunction with the Washington County START Team responded to an underage party on Cox Brook Road in Northfield. As a result the three tenants were arrested and charged with Enabling. Several other arrests were made for other violations and a number of individuals were referred to the Washington County Teen Alcohol Safety Program.

9:34 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police spoke with a resident concerning an ongoing domestic matter in which the parties involved have been harassing each other, this time one of the parties was driving by and taking pictures as they drove by the residence. The resident was advised that the conduct did not rise to the level of a criminal violation.

11:39 a.m. - Trespassing - Police were contacted concerning a Trespass violation which has been an ongoing situation. Written statements have been requested and the matter will be referred to the Washington County States Attorney for review.

May 3

1:29 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to a residence onSouth Main Street for a domestic situation. Upon arrival officers spoke with all parties involved and a juvenile in the house was taken into custody. The other party involved was cited and released at the scene.

May 4

11:40 a.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police received a report of a bad check from a Wall Street merchant. Police are currently investigating the incident.

2:41 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department received a report of a suspicious circumstance on Loop Road. Police met with a resident who reported seeing a suspicious male and a suspicious vehicle in the area over the weekend. Police handled the report and will patrol the area in an attempt to identify the vehicle and/or its operator.

May 5

1:28 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to a residence on Union Street for a reported vandalism. A cinder block was thrown through a vehicle window and a hand bag was stolen from inside the vehicle. An investigation into the incident is underway.

1:57 a.m. - Assault - Police responded to Norwich University for a reported assault. The victim stated he was jumped by 6-10 subjects outside of his dorm. Photographs of his injuries were taken and statements were obtained by witnesses. Two possible suspects were identified. An investigation is underway. The victim refused medical attention.

8:15 a.m. - Theft - Police received a report from a School Street resident of a theft that occurred sometime overnight. It was reported that quarters were taken from a parked motor vehicle. The Northfield Police Department is asking people to please lock their vehicles overnight, and to remove any important belongings when securing their vehicle.

8:28 a.m. - Theft - Police received a report from a Pleasant Street resident of a theft that occurred sometime overnight. It was reported that a wallet was taken from a parked motor vehicle. The Northfield Police Department is asking people to please lock their vehicles overnight, and to remove any important belongings when securing their vehicle.

10:32 a.m. - Citizen Assist - Police met with a King Street resident amidst concerns about his neighbor. The resident advised that he has been having problems with his neighbor, and asked that a trespass notice be served. Police took a statement about the incident and will be serving the notice.

11:04 a.m. - Assault - Police responded to Norwich University to investigate an assault that had occurred in the early morning hours. Police met with the victim and a witness and gathered statements and photographs. Police are currently investigating the incident further in the event criminal charges are filed.

12:34 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to North Main Street to assist a citizen with an animal problem. It was advised that a canine had gotten its paw stuck in a tree. Police responded and attempted to remove the dogs paw from the tree, but were unable to. Police summoned the assistance of Barrofio's Kennel and with their assistance they were able to free the dog paw. The dog was then taken to the vet by its owner.

2:59 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police met with a resident of the Northfield Falls Trailer Park about concerns of another resident. Police collected statements about the incident and the resident wanted a Notice Against Trespass issued. Police are awaiting the completion of the statements before the notice is served.

4:04 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Little Northfield Road for a report of an out of control individual. Upon arrival, Police met with the involved a individuals, one of whom was on probation. He was transported to the Northfield Police Department where probation officers located another place for him to stay for the evening.

6:37 p.m. - Theft - A resident of Cross Street called to report a larceny from her vehicle. A leather wallet was stolen from her unlocked vehicle sometime after 11 p.m. on May 4. There was no damage done to the vehicle. The glove box had been opened and not completely closed. She did not believe anything else was taken.
