NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
May 6
3:33 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Lovers Lane forthe report of a vehicle on fire. A small vehicle was sitting just off the side of the road fully engulfed in flames. The Northfield Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. An investigation is underway.
9:16 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police took a complaint concerning a resident who found that one of the tires on his vehicle had been slashed with a sharp object. The damaged happened at some point over the night time hours and was one of two vehicles in the area that had tire damage. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
9:49 p.m. - MV Complaint - Officers received a report that an ATV was traveling on Wallace Road. Upon arrival in the area, the officers were unable to locate any ATV using the roadway. officers patrol the area without locating the ATV.
11:53 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to a residence on Water Street for the report of a noise complaint. Upon arrival the officers spoke with the three tenants, and advised them of the complaint. They had not previously been warned this year, so they were warned and educated about the Northfield Noise ordinance.
May 7
5:10 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - An officer responded to the report of a family fight at a residence on Depot Square. Upon arrival the officers spoke with all parties involved and determined the argument had been verbal only.
7:55 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to an apartment building concerning a tenant dispute over noise and control access of a door. The matter involved one of the tenants who wanted the front door kept open so that her cat could come inside. The matter was dealt with and the parties involved agreed to cooperate concerning the door and noise.
May 8
12:09 a.m. - Disorderly Conduct/ Noise - An officer received a call form a resident of Vermont Route 12A about a family disturbance. The caller advised a male at the residence was intoxicated and out of control. Upon my arrival the complainant advised the male had left in his truck south towards Roxbury. I spoke with the complainant and other members at the residence. I also issued an area wide broadcast for the male and his truck. I was unable to locate the male.
1:37 a.m. - Noise Disturbance An officer responded to a residence on Kent Street for the report of a noise complaint. Upon my arrival I observed a large group of people standing outside. I spoke with them and they advised they were leaving. I advised them to keep the noise down. I then spoke with the tenants and advised them of the complaint. A check revealed no prior complaints at the residence. I educated them about the Northfield noise ordinance.
4:46 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police were contacted concerning a noise complaint on Union Street. Upon arrival of the police it was determined that the noise was harsh and unreasonable and a written warning was issued to one of the tenants.
May 9
1:06 a.m. - DUI - A man, age 22 of Northfield was arrested for DUI. He was stopped for doing 41 in a posted 30 mph zone. Officer's while speaking with him detected a strong odor of intoxicants emitting from his breath. He refused to take the evidentiary test and was cited to appear in the Washington County District Court on 5-28-09 at 12:00 pm to answer the charge of DUI Refusal.
1:59 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer responded to a residence on Spring Street for the report of a noise complaint. Upon the officer's arrival I parked down the street and could not hear any noise from the residence. Upon approaching the residence I noted the windows and doors were shut, but people were up inside. Upon speaking with the tenants, he advised a small group of people had just left.
10:15 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police were advised of a female writing on the retaining wall between the church and Depot Square. The graffiti appears to have been done in chalk and should wash off with the next rain. Police have identified the subjects responsible for part of the graffiti and the investigation is continuing.
4:31 p.m. - Trespassing - A Northfield property owner came to police and advised that a former tenant who advised he would be out of the house by May first is staying at the residence after the door locks have been changed and getting into the property via a window. Police are investigating.
6:30 p.m. - Fraud - Police Department received a complaint of Identity Theft. The complainant is receiving phone calls from a financial institution demanding payment on an account. The complainant claims he did not open an account with them. A suspect has been identified and an investigation is underway.
6:56 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to a residence on Union Street for a theft complaint. The complainant accused the neighbor of taking personal property from their residence while they were out of the house. The complainant advised the neighbor has a key to take care of the animals when they are gone. The situation was resolved by the parties involved and no police action was required.
May 10
6:10 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Northfield Falls for a suspicious individual who was hanging out around two businesses. The subject was located and stated he had been waiting for his uncle. The subject got a ride and left the area.
1:53 p.m. - Theft - Police spoke with n individual at Norwich University who needed to report a lost license plate. he information was gathered from the complainant, and a case was generated. he complainant was referred to the Department of Motor Vehicles, and was nstructed to file a lost/stolen license plate form, so he could get a eplacement license plate.
5:40 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to Vine Street to assist members of the Northfield Ambulance at a medical emergency. Upon arrival, Police provided assistance as necessary.
11:09 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to Water Street for a noise disturbance. Upon arrival no disturbance was heard. The area was checked and nothing was discovered.
May 11
10:19 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of an animal complaint on Stony Brook Road. It was advised that around 10:00, a dog was running astray in the neighborhood. When the complainant attempted to leash the dog, it ran away.
3:09 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department received a call from a Depot Square resident in regards to a suspicious circumstance. The caller advised that a neighbor was witnessed looking through his mail-box. Police spoke with a witness and learned that nothing was taken. Police will follow-up with the neighbor about this incident.
3:35 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police received a report of a missing juvenile from Cross Street. A female student had left the school, which caused staff to become alarmed. An Officer on patrol located the juvenile and transported her back to the school so she could be turned over to her parents.
May 12
12:21 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to a residence on Cemetery Street for a disturbance. Upon arrival it was learned that the dispute was only verbal. One of the individuals decided to leave the residence for the night so that nothing further would happen.
11:33 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer responded to a report of dogs barking continuously creating a noise disturbance on Hill St. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complainant but they both could not hear any further noise. The officer stayed in the area for about 25 minutes and he still could not hear any noise disturbance.
7:54 p.m. - Burglary - Police responded to a residence in which the caretaker of the property was reporting that the property had been entered via a window. A prescription drug seems to be the only missing property missing/stolen at this time. the matter is under investigation.
