Flaws

TO THE EDITOR: THE NORTHFIELD NEWS BRAD DENNY has been listening to Obama's speeches as he continues to campaign for the presidency of the United States. Obama's incessant need to convince everybody that he is right is clouding peoples' perceptions of the problems that face our nation. Mr. Denny has taken from the Obama speeches the phrase, "point of law." Where marriage is concerned, the issue is definitely clouded. First, marriage is not a constitutional right. Second, there is nothing in the Constitution that allows immoral behavior. This is one area where I do agree with Obama. He is opposed to gay marriage. In this case, he is right.

Based on this logic, our legislators misled 98% of Vermonters. Mr. Denny made a statement that he agreed with the legislators to treat all citizens equally before the law. Following through with this logic, the next concept that we must promote is the "Tri-marriage." We have to protect the rights of the bisexuals.

The term "marriage" has been so confused with equal rights that it enters into the realm of the bizarre, like a tri-marriage. The logic of a legal system that denies rights to any class of citizens where there is unequal treatment is horridly flawed.

Another area that is flawed is the concept of clean energy. It is not clean energy that is flawed. It is how we are going to get there, and what it will cost, that is flawed.

I share the concerns of Nate Freeman about his children. I share the concern of all our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. My concern is the debt that we have imposed upon them. That debt is a burden that is frightening, and it does not include the increased massive debt that we will enter into by poor planning to attain clean energy. Our own legislature is talking of imposing high electric rates to pay for some of this. Obama is going to impose a national energy tax.

As John Cruickshank pointed out, there are problems with any form of energy that we use, and things that people will be opposed to, no matter what.

My opinion is that our greatest source of energy is the sun. It is the greenest form of energy that we have. We have a way of harnessing solar radiation. Our nuclear power plants use this concept of radiation to provide energy. It is cheap, it is efficient and as to the waste, it will not mar our environment as massive wind or solar farms would. It is much more efficient and cheaper than any other form of energy. It also creates jobs. It also reduces our legislature's need to impose higher taxes on less efficient, higher costing alternatives. As with anything else, we will find a way to deal with the nuclear waste.

Every form of energy has its flaws. The biggest flaw we have with going green is not having a plan on how to get there, and how to pay for it.
