NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
May 13
12:10 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to a citizens complaint concerning a vehicle parked in the middle of the roadway and obstructing traffic. Police responded and located the operator and the vehicle was moved out of the roadway.
11:01 a.m. = Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the Falls Mobile Home Park for a citizen dispute. Upon arrival it was determined that the altercation was only verbal. Everyone had separated and gone home. Both parties were talked to about the incident.
6:01 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a complaint of motorcycles racing up and down Byam Hill Road in Northfield Vermont. Police located the cyclist but did not observe any violations. Police spoke with the operators and advised them not to operate on a public highway until they got drivers license's, insurance and registrations.
6:49 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to water street for a complaint of kids throwing mud onto a vehicle. Police identified the children involved and spoke to the parents about the situation. The vehicle did not receive any damage and the children received punishment from their parents.
May 14
9:54 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of North Main Street and Vine Street at the traffic light. There were no injuries, minor front and rear end damage as a result of a rear ender type crash at a very low speed.
10:27 a.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police were requested by the Northfield Highway Dept to respond to the area of Union Brook Road where road repairs were being done. Appropriate warning signs had been placed on both ends of the roadway but the highway staff advised that the motor vehicles passing were making the work zone unsafe as the motorists were not slowing down upon approach and through the work zone. Police responded to slow down traffic.
1:33 p.m. - Child Abuse or Neglect - Police responded to a report of afamily disturbance. Police made contact with the parties involved as well as family members who were able to seek professional services for a subject that was having medical and mental health issues.
4:08 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police received a report of a tree that had fallen upon an adjacent property owners garage. There appeared to be minor damage to the garage and the property owner of the tree will make arraignments to have the tree removed and clean up the mess left by the fallen tree.
May 15
10:44 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a report of suspicious activity because a car horn was blowing non-stop. Police located the source of the noise, but the property owner was not home at the time. Police determined that the owners motor vehicle anti theft alarm had malfunctioned.
2:58 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a report of found property. The property found was a handgun. The owner of the handgun returned to the location prior to the arrival of the police and advised police that he had dropped it by accident without knowing, but soon found it missing and came looking to the last place he had been.
5:58 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a complaint of motorcycles traveling up and down Byam Hill road. The motor cycles had already left the area when police arrived.
10:44 p.m. - Alcohol Offense - Police stopped a motor vehicle on VT Rte 12A for a moving violation. Two Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for speed and for no insurance were issued.
May 16
1:08 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the infirmary Building across from Norwich University for a report of vandalism to motor vehicles. When Police arrived, they found two vehicles that had been toilet papered and marshmallow and ketchup smeared on them. Police gave Norwich Security the names of the owners so that Norwich could contact them to get their vehicles washed.
8:28 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police were advised of a suspicious event where two vehicles had been toilet papered as the vehicles had been parked in a private parking lot over the night. Upon investigation and speaking with the property owners it was determined that the matter was a prank and no damage was done to the vehicles.
11:25 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to a motor vehicle disturbance involving dirt bikes and ATV type machines in which the operators were not wearing helmets. the operators were gone upon the arrival of the police.
1:32 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to Wall Street to investigate a report of a motor vehicle that had hit a house over the night or early morning hours. Minor damage was observed at the scene to the porch section of the residence. Police have collected evidence at the scene that had been left behind by the vehicle. Anyone with information can contact police or Crime Stoppers with information.
May 17
8:01 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police Department received a report of a phone complaint and vandalism on North Main Street. Upon arrival, Police met with the residents and handled the complaint. It was determined that an individual had spray painted a derogatory comment onto the garage door at the residence. A possible suspect was identified, and Police are investigating the incident further.
11:54 a.m. - Theft - Police Department received a report of a stolen bicycle from North Main Street. While the officer was responding to meet with the complainant, he called back to advise that he had located his bicycle. No further action was taken or needed.
12:19 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to Byam Hill for a report of a dirt-bikers being ridden upon the highway. Police responded but were not able to locate the dirt-bikers. A Norwich University Security Officer checked their property at the end of Byam Hill, but he did not locate anyone in that location.
May 18
1:01 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police Department responded to Gould Road for a report of a motor vehicle complaint. A resident advised that his vehicle had been struck when it was parked in his driveway. Police canvassed the area, but did not locate any other vehicles with similar damage. If anyone witnessed a motor vehicle crash on Gould Road between the hours of 8AM and 1PM, please call the Northfield Police Dept. with your information.
10:04 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - The department received a telephone call reporting that their neighbors were fighting. They could hear the arguing and were concerned for their welfare. The officer responded and determined that it was a verbal argument. After a period of time the officer left the residence and reported that the parties were okay for the evening.
1:00 p.m. - Theft - The department was advised of a dumpster that had been used by someone unauthorized. The business noticed numerous used paint cans in their dumpster. The officer was able to determine the owner of the unauthorized garbage and contacted them to retrieve it and properly dispose of it.
May 19
1:40 p.m. - Animal Problem - The department was advised of two dogs unleashed on Little Northfield Road. The callers reported that the dogs looked to have tangled with a porcupine and were paying the consequences. The animal control officer and the police responded to the scene. The dogs were identified and the owner was contacted. Civil tickets were issued for the ordinance violation to the owner for allowing the dogs to run at large.
10:43 p.m. - DUI - Police cited a man ,age 30, of Northfield for Driving Under the Influence. He was operating a motor vehicle on VT RT 12 N at a high rate of speed and was stopped. During the stop a preliminary breath test indicated a result of .113%Brac. He was transported to the department and processed. He was released with a citation to appear in Washington County District Court in June.
