NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
May 20
8:15 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to the Falls Trailer Park for a citizen Dispute. Police met the complainant who advised that a little girl from down the street had taken her daughters ball and when she went to get it back, the parent started yelling at her. I spoke with the other party and they denied speaking to her and advised that they did not own the ball that was currently in their yard. The ball was returned.
9:44 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police stopped a vehicle on Cox Brook Road for having defective equipment, brake light out. Dispatch advised that the defendant was under suspension for insurance and failure to pay fines. The defendant received two Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for operating after suspension and for failure to return license after suspension.
The vehicle was towed by North Main Service.
May 21
4:54 a.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police responded to Cox Brook Road for a report of large beams that had fallen inside one of the covered bridges. Police arrived and removed two large beams from the roadway. The investigation is showing that an oversized vehicle had entered the bridge and struck the beams knocking them down. Police searched the area but were unable to locate any vehicles with red paint transfer.
4:29 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a residence in reference to an erratic operation of a motor vehicle as well as a Right-of-Way matter. Police are looking into the matter concerning the Right-of-Way issue and have spoken with the party involved in the alleged erratic operation.
5:12 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police took a complaint concernin a juvenile who had been reckless with a BB gun. Police are investigating and will be talking with the parents of the juvenile as well as the juvenile.
6:24 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to Richardson Street for a citizen dispute involving a property line dispute.
Police spoke with both parties and an agreement was made about the property line and where the fence was going to be erected.
9:53 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a complaint that a male individual had picked up a truck at his place of business and drove off with no registration or insurance on the vehicle. The complainant did not know who took the vehicle other then it being a male subject. Police looked for the vehicle but were unable to locate it.
May 22
12:52 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a reported noise complaint on Spring Street in Northfield Vermont. Police parked at the bottom of the road and approached on foot and heard no noise. Police met with the tenant and the landlord who was also called to the scene by the complainant and found it to be an unfounded complaint.
5:49 p.m. - Assault - Police responded to a family disturbance. A family vehicle was taken by one of the family members without permission and returned within the hour. In addition and prior to leaving in the motor vehicle, a verbal exchange of words were made and a chair was thrown. Once things calmed down and the vehicle was returned, the family members involved did not want to pursue criminal charges.
May 23
5:37 a.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to Stony Brook road, near Boardman Road for the report of a vehicle off of the roadway. Upon arrival the officer identified the vehicle, which had been reported stolen earlier that night from a party in Washington, VT. The Vermont State Police were advised of the recovery. Pictures of the vehicle were taken before it was released to the owners.
8:23 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police assisted the Vermont State Police by locating and questioning a subject in Northfield. The vehicle was spotted driving near Cox Brook Road and stopped. A citation to appear in court was issued per VSP request once the subject was identified and questioned.
8:38 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to Loop Road for a reported 1 vehicle accident. According to the complainant a vehicle was sitting halfway in the ditch and a male subject had just ran from the vehicle into the woods. The vehicle was towed from the area and an investigation is underway. A suspect has been identified.
May 24
1:03 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to Vermont Route 12A to assist the Rochester Constable with a motor vehicle pursuit. The Constable had lost sight of the vehicle, but had subsequently located it at a residence on Warren Mountain Road. A Northfield Officer and a VT State Trooper assisted the Constable. The operator of the vehicle was issued a citation to appear at court for the offense.
4:36 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of a stray golden retriever from a Vermont Route 12 A resident. Police learned that the dog came to the residence earlier in the day, and needed assistance in bringing it to the kennel. Police responded and found that the dog had no tags, and was therefore placed at Baroffio's Kennel. If anyone from the area is missing a golden retriever, contact the Northfield Police.
5:56 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Turkey Hill Road for the report of a suspicious male hanging out in the area for an extended period of time. Upon arrival no one was located in the area.
9:31 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to Water Street for a juvenile problem. A mother and her daughter were having a dispute and the mom called for assistance. Officers spoke with everyone involved and then offered some guidance and explained what could happen if the situation continued.
May 25
6:56 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Polic received a report of a vandalism on Second Street. Upon arrival, the officer observed a derogatory word painted onto the exterior of the residence. The vandalism was removed after Police departed the scene.
8:06 a.m. - Burglary - The department received a report of an open door at a North Main Street business. Upon arrival the police found that the business had been burglarized overnight. Police examined the scene and collected evidence.
9:10 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police received a report of a citizen dispute on Union Brook Road. A resident reported that a neighbor was refusing to cooperate with his insurance company in regards to a recent
motor vehicle collision. Police are completing a crash report for the incident.
10:51 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer received a report of suspicious circumstances about tenants on Central Street. The resident completed a sworn statement to be kept on file in the event of any further incidents. Police also offered the resident information about eviction and the process.
12:10 p.m. -Citizen Dispute - Police responded to Belknap Street for a report of citizen dispute. The caller became concerned when she overheard people engaged in a heated argument somewhere in the immediate area. Police responded and found two individuals in the parking lot who had been arguing. Upon investigation, it was found that nothing physical had taken place, and the altercation was only verbal in nature.
May 26
10:02 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of a suspicious person at a North Main Street business. The caller thought that the individual may have unlawfully taken merchandise, but had since left the business. Police gathered a physical description of the individual, and canvassed the area. Police were not able to locate the subject.
1:29 p.m. - Found Property - Police recovered property from a North Main Street business. A bottle of medication was discovered at a mercantile, and was turned over to the Police. Police are attempting to locate the proper owner of the medications.
5:51 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a residence on Water Street for a juvenile who was out of control. Upon arrival officers met with everyone at the residence. The juvenile was transported to CVH to meet with a mental health screener.
