NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

May 27

7:36 a.m. - Burglary - Police responded to a reported residential burglary in which cash and electronic equipment was taken. The case is under active investigation.

1:43 p.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police assisted a local merchant who was looking for an individual who had passed a check which was returned from the bank marked insufficient funds. The check passer was from out of state and contact was made with the security department representing the bank for further information to assist the merchant.

7:34 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of two stolen cell phones. The complainant advised that he left them at his fathers house and that his ex-girl friend has taken them and will not return them.

May 28

9:20 a.m. - Sex Offense - Police initiated a Lewd and Lacivious conduct investigation that involved a juvenile female. State Child Protection "DCF" was notified and a joint investigation is being conducted.

12:20 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - A Northfield resident made a complaint concerning a window being damaged on her motor vehicle. The resident was unsure how the damaged happened but advised that it happened on May 19, 2009 as that is when she first noticed the damage.

10:12 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to a report of a family fight on VT Rte. 12A in Northfield Vermont. When Police arrived, they separated the two highly intoxicated parties and it was decided that the male party would leave for the night. Police responded back to the residence after receiving a report that the other party was burning the other parties belongings. A ticket will be issued for the illegal burning of refuse.

May 29

2:15 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police while on patrol heard a family arguing in the Northfield Falls. The incident was entirely verbal and the male party was given a lift to a friends house to sleep for the night. The argument occurred because the female party was under the impression that her boy friend had been out sleeping around with a 18 year neighbor that night. Getting some professional counseling was suggested to both parties.

4:46 a.m. - Animal Problem - A resident of the Northfield Falls Trailer Park called to report a dog barking, which was outside in the rain. The complainant advised they tried to wake the owner without success. Animal control was notified and they secured the dog. An animal cruelty investigation is pending.

12:48 p.m. - Found Property - Police took possession of a wallet found on the campus of Norwich University. The owner was contacted and the property will be returned.

1:41 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a minor motor vehicle crash that involved a school bus with 9 students aboard on Vt Rt 12 A within the Town of Northfield. As the bus and a delivery truck were passing by each other on the bridge near Bull Run, the side rear view mirrors struck as they passed. There were no injuries to the students.

5:58 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to a family fight on VT Rte. 12A in Northfield Vermont. The complainant advised that he was attempting to get his belongings out of the residence and that his wife was verbally harassing him. Police assisted in getting the belongings removed and the wife received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for illegally burning refuse, (The husband's belongings and 3 year old sons birthday gifts).

11:05 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - An officer responded to a residence on Vine Street for the report of a family disturbance. A woman, who advised she was in the process of splitting with her domestic partner advised her partner damaged property while she was away earlier in the evening. Pictures of the damaged property were taken.

May 30

7:53 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - An officer cited a woman, age 20, of Northfield for PMB. An Officer responded to the woman's apartment to conduct a welfare check. Upon our arrival and during the subsequent investigation the officer could smell the odor of intoxicants. A PBT result of 0.119%Brac was obtained. She was released with a citation to appear on Thursday July 9, 2009 to answer the charge.

1:19 p.m. - DUI - Police stopped a motor vehicle on I- 89N after it passed the marked police cruiser on the right, and at a speed greater than the posted speed limit. Upon stopping the vehicle, the operator was found to be under the influence of alcohol. He submitted to sobriety exercises, and a PBT. The PBT determined that he had a BAC of 0.119%.. He was arrested, processed and released upon citation to appear at court.

7:13 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to a residence on RT 12 in Northfield Falls for the report of a stolen concrete lawn ornament. During the afternoon hours someone stole a concrete duck that sat on a tree stump on the front lawn. The duck is white in color with an orange bill. The resident called a couple of days later to report the duck had been found.

May 31

12:44 a.m. - DUI - A man, age 27 of Northfield was arrested for DUI #2. Police observed the man traveling west on Aseltine Road with no front registration plate on his vehicle. While speaking with him, police observed a strong odor of intoxicants emitting from him. He did poorly during the field sobriety exercises and was taken into custody and at 01:48 hours, he had a BAC of.109%.

9:30 a.m. - Theft - Police responded to VT Route 12A for a report of a theft. Upon arrival, it was determined that 4 tires and rims were taken from outside a building sometime overnight. Police are currently investigating the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Northfield Police Department at 485-9181.

4:22 p.m. - Wanted Person - Police conducted a motor vehicle stop on VT Route 64. Police learned that the license of the operator was under suspension and there was an active warrant for his arrest from Addison County District Court. He was taken into custody and lodged at the Barre City Police and was issued a warning for speeding, and a ticket for operation after suspension.

June 1

3:26 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police met with a Woods Road resident about recovered property. Police met with the complainant who advised that a cellular phone went missing on Friday, but was recovered at school on Monday. Upon inspection, the SIM card was missing from the phone. The name of the student who had possessed the phone was gathered, and the SIM card was also recovered.

June 2

5:52 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department received a report of a suspicious circumstance from a Central Street resident. The caller advised that a bucket of tools was taken from his motor vehicle overnight, but he had recovered them just down the road. Nothing was found to be missing, and all the tools were present. Police would like to remind Northfield residents to lock your vehicles overnight to deter thefts from motor vehicles.

6:58 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of a theft from two motor vehicles on Summer Street. A resident advised that items were missing from both of their vehicles, which were left unlocked overnight. Police obtained a list of the missing items.

9:03 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department received a call from a Water Street resident about suspicious individuals seen in the area overnight. Police learned that the resident saw two male individuals across the road from his residence, and they appeared to be looking into parked vehicles. Police suspect this activity is related to the theft related incidents that occurred overnight in the area.

11:55 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance- Police received a report of a suspicious circumstance on East Street. A resident advised that her vehicle had been gone through overnight, and found that the cords to her Sirius satellite radio had been cut. No items were found to be missing however.
