Wednesday 'Dessert and Discussion' To Start At Sullivan Museum June 17

Northfield News

The Sullivan Museum and History Center at Norwich University will host a three-part "dessert and discussion" sessions including panel presentations by Vermont artists on creativity followed by a discussion session with the audience.

The discussion will be moderated by Museum Director Marilyn C. Solvay, who will also lead a handson creativity exercise. The program is free and open to the public.

The series, "Cultivating Your Creativity," is scheduled for three Wednesdays beginning June 17 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. and continuing on July 15 and 29.

This series runs in conjunction with the summer exhibition "Inspired by Stories: Artists Reflect on the Historical Collection of the Sullivan Museum," a juried exhibit of 18 works of contemporary art alongside 18 historical artifacts from the permanent collection, which will be on view until August 28, 2009.

Vermont artists featured in this show will share their ideas, tips, and techniques on the process of creativity and engage the audience in a discussion about their personal creative processes.

On Wednesday, June 17, Northfield artists Don LaHue, Robin LaHue, and Phyllis Gosling Greenway along with Montpelier artists Barbara E.M. Scotch and Jason Baldwin, will discuss the topic "Planting the Creative Seed."

The artists have a broad background in teaching art at many institutions, solo and group exhibitions locally, nationally and abroad along with the passion for creating a work of art.

After comments from all the artists, the audience will be invited to engage in a discussion on how the creative seeds are planted and what the best ways are to keep them cultivated in our busy lives.
