NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
June 10
12:41 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police investigated a matter in which a student had left school after exams without parental permission. The student later returned back to school in order to take a 1pm exam.
1:05 p.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police were advised of a traffic hazard on Garvey Hill Road due to vehicle being parked on both sides of the roadway. Police responded and issued tickets to those vehicles that were parked in violation of the "No Parking this side of street" regulation.
1:26 p.m. - Animal Problem - A resident called concerning a dead cat that had just recently been struck by a motor vehicle on VT 12A. The Northfield Town Highway Department was contacted for removal.
3:34 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - An officer was dispatched to a residence in Northfield concerning a Juvenile Problem. Upon arrival, the Foster Parent of the Juvenile who is in DCF-Barre custody advised that she did not want the juvenile to be living at the residence anymore due to conflicts. The juvenile was taken into custody and released to DCF.
June 11
11:41 a.m. - Found Property - Police commenced an investigation into the ownership of property found in Northfield. The property appears to have been ditched and may be related to criminal activity. No further information is available at this time as this is an open investigation.
11:42 p.m. Litter/Pollution/Public Health - Police were advised of a littering matter in which a bag of household waste had been thrown over an embankment. The contents of the bag were examined and several documents were recovered that may lead to the owner of the dumped waste.
1:46 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police took a call from a concerned parent that her son was being picked on verbally by some other youths. Made contact with the youths and advised them of the ramifications should they continue to act disorderly.
5:14 p.m. - Sex Offense - Police were contacted by the Central Vermont Hospital concerning sexual assault that happened in Northfield. Police are investigating.
June 12
3:31 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police investigated a report of several dogs running at large on Vt RT 12A. A check of the area was made by police and no dogs were observed as running at large.
3:50 p.m. - Threatening - Police responded to a report of a juvenile threatening other children with a "Bow and Arrow". Police identified the juvenile who was under the age of 10, the Bow and arrow was seized by police and the juvenile spoken with concerning safety.
5:36 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to a citizens complaint concerning a dog that had been tied up all day without shelter and water/food. Police responded to the location and determined that the dog was in good condition and spoke with the owner and advised.
7:02 p.m. - Animal Problem - A resident on Water Street called to complain that neighborhood dogs were using his lawn for a restroom, and owners weren't cleaning up. The officer asked if he had any names, but the resident was unwilling to share. The officer also suggested putting up a sign, but theresident said he didn't want to have to spend money because his neighbors were being rude. He said he wanted the town to adopt an ordinance prohibiting such activities.
7:06 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A resident called to report hearing a gunshot. An officer responded and spoke with several people in the area who said they did not hear any shots. The officer searched the area without finding anything suspicious. No further action necessary.
9:28 p.m. - DUI - Police arrested a woman, age 47, of Barre City for DUI. 10:05 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to Rte. 12A in Northfield Vermont for a complaint of Fireworks. When Police arrived, the firework show was over. The resident had a proper fireworks permit and no violation occurred.
11:31 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Pleasant
Street for a report of a barking dog. When Police arrived, the dog was already inside the residence and no longer barking. Police spoke with the dog owner and advised him that he needed to control his animal when it is outside at night so that it does not disturb the neighborhood.
June 13
7:10 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The department was advised that there was a suspicious vehicle in the area. The caller lives on a road with only a few houses and low traffic. The vehicle was not any of his neighbors and he gave the officer a description of the vehicle. The department was advised of the callers concerns.
8:29 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to Memorial Park concerning a Porta-Potty that had been overturned over the night time hours. Town highway department personnel cleaned up the mess.
1:23 p.m. - Lost Property - A lost/found insurance card was turned into police. Police are attempting to locate the owner of the card.
4:42 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police removed a large snapping turtle from the Depot Square wading pool/fountain. It is not known how the turtle ended up in the fountain, but did appear to be content in the water. Due to public safety concerns for small children who wad in the fountain, the turtle was captured and relocated to a more compatible habitat.
8:25 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded twice to a residence on Wallace road for a noise disturbance. On both occasions the complainant said music was being played too loudly. No action was taken on the first complaint as the music level was acceptable when police arrived. Police determined the music was violating the ordinance on the second occasion and a municipal ordinance violation was written to the property owner.
June 14
3:02 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complaint on Wallace Road in Northfield Vermont. When Police arrived, they initially found the radio to be at an acceptable level but as they were leaving, it was turned way up. Police had responded to this residence earlier in the evening for the same complaint. Police issued the residents a Vermont
Municipal Violation Complaint for the noise violation.
11:24 a.m. - Traffic Hazard - An officer responded to West Hill Road near Chamberlain Road for some wires down in the roadway. Upon arrival, the officer was able to determine that a tree had fallen onto the telephone wire. The phone company was called to fix the traffic hazard.
June 15
8:53 a.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police received a request to assist with traffic control on Vermont Route 12 South. The traffic control was requested while a mobile home was being placed at a residence. Police responded, but traffic was flowing smoothly without any assistance from the police.
12:23 p.m. - Accident PD - Police received a report of a minor motor vehicle collision on Harmon Drive at the Norwich University campus. Police responded and completed a crash report for the operators involved in the collision.
2:15 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a report of a motor vehicle complaint on Vermont Route 12 South. It was advised that a motor vehicle had spun its tires in an open, grassy lot in the cemetery. Upon arrival, Police saw that the tracks were old, but are conducting extra patrols in the area in an effort to curb any further acts.
4:34 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police received a report of a phone problem from a Falls Mobile Home resident. A neighbor was reportedly calling and harassing the complainant via phone. Police spoke with the neighbor and asked for the calls to cease. The complainant was advised of the same, and told to contact the police if any more calls were placed. No further complaints were received from the complainant.
June 16
6:02 p.m. - Citizen Assist - The department was contacted by a resident that was locked out of her home. She had gone outside and the door had locked behind her. The officer responded to the residence and assisted with entry into the home.
6:49 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to the Falls Trailer Park for a complaint of a juvenile driving a vehicle on the streets with no license. The juvenile and vehicle were located. The juvenile is only 14 years old. He was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for the operation of the vehicle.
