NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

July 1

3:30 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police stopped a vehicle towing an unregistered trailer on VT Rte 64. The operator stated that he was borrowing the trailer and did not know it was not registered. The operator received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for persons required to register. The trailer was towed by North Main Service.

5:27 p.m. - DLS - A woman, age 24 of Northfield was arrested for Driving while Criminally suspended. Farr was stopped on VT Rte. 12A for doing 42 in a 30 zone. Middlesex dispatched advised that she was criminally suspended for Driving under the influence of Drugs. She was issued a citation to appear in the Washington County District Court on 8-13-09 at 12:00 pm to answer the charge.

8:57 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A young female came to the police station to report being harassed by another young male. The officer collected statements from the parties involved and will be speaking with the parents.

8:58 p.m. - Custodial Interference - The department was advised that a father would not send the sixteen year old to the custodial parent. The officer made contact and helped resolve the situation.

10:23 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer was advised of a noise complaint on Vine Street. The officer responded to the complainant and was advised that it was her housemate and guest that were making the noise. The officer was able to help quiet everyone.

11:10 p.m. - MV Complaint - A caller reported an unsafe driver at the intersection of Union Street and Water Street. The officer collected statements from the witnesses and will be issuing the operator a traffic ticket for the violation.

11:50 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - A male came to the police station seeking assistance in obtaining some property back from an ex-girlfriend. While there, the ex-girlfriend arrived and some property was exchanged, and arrangements were made to exchange the rest of the property at a later time.

11:55 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer was flagged down at the Dogwood Glen Apartments complex. The complainant wanted to report a suspicious incident that had occurred several hours before. The officer provided the complainant and a witness statement forms, which were collected later. The officer will serve the accused with a Notice Against Trespass.

July 2

2:04 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Officers responded to a local convenience store for the report of a male customer who was becoming unruly because the clerk was refusing to accept his taped together license. Upon arrival the subject had left the area.

12:55 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police stopped a vehicle on North Main Street near Beans Chevrolet for no inspection sticker. The defendant stated that that she had transferred the plates from her old vehicle

to this one and mailed the registration in. The defendant stated that the old vehicle was in her possession. Tickets issued for no registration, plates not assigned and the vehicle was towed by North Main Service.

3:16 p.m. - Property Damage, Non Vandalism - Police responded to Central Street for a report of property damage. When Police arrived, they observed that a hole had been dug and some bushes removed. The complainant was upset that his property was damaged and he wanted it recorded. The other male party present stated that he did the damage while attempt to fix a broken water main. He stated that he would restore the damaged property when the main was fixed.

July 3

6:18 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - A citizen stopped at the police department to report he and his family had been harassed at a local convenience store parking lot by four males, one of whom made a threatening gesture with an ice scraper. An officer responded immediately but found no one in the area. The officer spoke with people at the store, who reported seeing nothing suspicious. The officer patrol the area for the next few hours without finding the males.

July 4

1:22 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to Rt 14 in Williamstown to assist state police with an altercation. On the way to the residence the officer found one of the females involved walking on Rt 14. She said she was punched in the face, and an ambulance was called. The officer returned to the residence so state police could interview her. EMS treated the female on scene, and the officer later drove her to her residence.

10:20 a.m. - Found Property - Police Department took custody of a set of keys found on Davis Avenue. The keys appeared to have been run over, but were in otherwise OK condition. There were no discernable markings of identifiers linking the keys to a specific owner or property. 3:18 p.m. - Accident PD - Police, Fire and Rescue responded to a motor vehicle crash on South Main Street in which a vehicle had gone off the roadway in order to avoid hitting a cat and struck a power pole. There were no injuries. The power pole was damage and will need to be replaced.

7 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a complaint of a loose pig on the front lawn of a residence on Union Brook Road in Northfield Vermont. Police along with the complainant eventually located the swine's pen at a neighbors house and fenced it back in.

10:45 p.m. - Fireworks - Police were advised of firworks being set off. Subjects were gone from the area and all was quiet upon the arrival of police.

July 5

5:08 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police Department responded to Water Street for a report of a juvenile problem. Police responded and helped to mitigate the situation. The juvenile was left in the custody of her parents, and no further action was taken or needed.

6:28 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to Vermont Route 12A for a motor vehicle complaint. A resident reported that motor vehicles were traveling upon the roadway at high rates of speed. An Officer responded and patrolled the area for approximately an hour. Two motor vehicles were stopped for speeding violations.

July 6

2:47 p.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - Police Department conducted a search of a motor vehicle on Wall Street. During the consensual search of the motor vehicle, Police discovered a minute amount of marijuana inside a plastic bag, and drug paraphernalia. The items were seized by Police after the search, photographed, and later destroyed. No charges were filed.

5:22 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to Water Street for a juvenile problem. It was reported that a juvenile was out of control at the residence. Upon arrival, Police met with the juvenile and the parents, and helped to calm the situation. No criminal acts were found to have taken place, and no charges were filed. Outside agencies were contacted to help handle the situation further after Police departed from the scene.

July 7

6:32 a.m. - Accident PD - Police received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Mill Street. Upon arrival, it was found that one vehicle had backed into another vehicle in a residence parking area. Police identified the operators involved in the collision, completed a crash report, and photographed the scene.

12:25 p.m. - Fraud - A citizen of Northfield walked into the police department after being told by the bank to make a report. There has been unauthorized activity on the account. The officer is investigating.

2:30 p.m. - Animal Problem - The department was advised of a big black dog that was wandering in and out of traffic on North Main Street. The caller had detained the dog safely in the parking lot of Cumberland farms and the animal control officer was contacted by the police department.

4:31 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of a suspicious circumstance at the Falls Mobile Home Park. It was advised by a resident that someone had mowed 'zigzagged' lines into her grass, and had moved some surrounding outdoor home decor. Police photographed and documented the damages surrounding the incident. During followup investigation, a possible suspect was identified.
