NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

July 8

1:44 a.m. - Assault - A man, 26, of Montpelier was arrested for Simple Assault. Police responded to a 911 call for a female that was assaulted. Upon arrival the officer met with the man and arrested him based on the victim's statement, witness statements and apparent physical injuries to her neck area. He was processed at the department and lodged at Barre City.

12:20 p.m. - MV Complaint Police were provided with a license plate number of a vehicle that had been backing out of a parking spot and did some property damage to a parked and unattended vehicle in the adjoining parking space. Police made contact with the owners and operators of the vehicles involved and the matter was resolved.

1:08 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The department was contacted by a home owner who believed someone had entered her home. When the officer arrived on scene he observed an open door to the residence. After clearing the home and advising the owner that there was no one inside he inspected the door for evidence of entry. It was determined that the door was not properly secure and a number ofsituations could have caused the door to open. Owner advised to fix the door.

July 9

8:15 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a disturbance call on Clark Road. A resident called and requested an officer speak with his neighbors concerning the noise and smoke from spinning tires. The neighbor in question agreed to stop spinning the tires and racing the engine.

9:14 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a suspicious complaint. A resident of Vine Street called saying someone had been in their garage/barn and moved items in front of the door. The resident called back while an officer was in route to meet them and advised they had figured out what had happened and no longer needed police assistance.

July 10

10:49 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - A citizen called in reference to a problem with an adjoining neighbor. The problems appears to be a communications problem in which the neighbor is rude to the other and screams rather then talks. Police will monitor this situation and requested the neighbor to contact police should any more problems surface.

12:22 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police commenced an investigation concerning a morning electrical outage of Turkey Hill Road in Northfield. Police were contacted as it is suspected that the outage was directly related to an act of Vandalism to the power transmission line owned and maintained by the Northfield Electric Department.

6:21 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police were notified that several juveniles were vandalizing the covered bridge on Slaughterhouse Road. An officer responded and found that four planks had been removed from the north side of the bridge and thrown in the river. The officer spoke to several residents who did not see who had done the damage. The juveniles were not found, but others who came later removed the planks from the river.

10:37 p.m. - MV Complaint - Officers were notified of cars drag racing on Cox Brook Road. Officers responded and found multiple tire marks, but no vehicles in the area. Officers patrolled the area for the rest of the night with no further disturbances taking place.

July 11

Noise Disturbance - Officers were notified of people talking loudly on Vine Street. Officers responded and found family members sitting around a small campfire. They were cautioned about keeping their voices low, and willingly agreed. No further action necessary.

4:26 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to a business on North Main Street for the report of a skunk in distress. A skunk had gotten it's head stuck inside a plastic container and could not free itself. Upon arrival officers witnessed the animals dilemma and were able to assist the skunk to free itself from the container. The skunk ran into the bushes unharmed after being freed.

1:53 p.m. - Property Damage, Non Vandalism - The department was notified of damage done to the callers vegetable garden. The caller stated that his neighbors cows are frequently out, not on their own property, and had gotten into his garden. The officer responded to meet with both parties.

July 13

6:52 a.m. - Accident PD - Police received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Water Street. The complainant reported that someone had struck her vehicle overnight, but had since left the scene. Police responded and gathered information about the collision and completed a preliminary crash report for the complainant. Later in the afternoon, the other operator and vehicle involved in the collision was identified.

9:36 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police received report of a motor vehicle complaint on South Main Street. The complainant reported that her vehicle was based by another vehicle at a high rate of speed

and on a double yellow line. A license plate was retained by the complainant and was forwarded to the Northfield Police for further follow-up. Police made contact with the vehicle owner, and spoke with them about the complaint.

1:34 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police assisted another law enforcement agency with attempting to locate a subject on Tenney Road in Roxbury, and Cemetery Street in Northfield. The subject was not located.

12:29 p.m. - Found Property - Police received a wallet that was found in a parking lot on Garvey Hill Road. Utilizing the

documents found inside the wallet, Police contacted the owner and made arrangements for it to be turned over safely.

1:35 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department responded to a North Main Street residence about suspicious overnight activity. Upon speaking with the complainant, Police learned that gasoline may have been siphoned from a vehicle that was parked in the driveway overnight. Police will be conducting increased patrols in the area to maintain a higher level of visibility and presence, and will also be monitoring the immediate area.

4:36 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a Vermont Route 12 A residence for a report of a citizen dispute. Upon arrival, Police spoke with the parties involved. It was determined that there were no criminal violations taking place, and that the primary issue at hand was a civil issue. A statement was gathered from the complainant for the case file at the Northfield Police Department.
