Vermont Public Television Program Highlights for Aug. 2 to 8:
Aug. 2: Sunday at 5:30 p.m., the Emmy-winning documentary "Champlain: The Lake Between" encores on VPT. The film explores Samuel de Champlain's arrival in the region 400 years ago and the ensuing cultural history.
At 9 p.m., "Great Performances" offers "Pete Seeger's 90th Birthday Celebration From Madison Square Garden." Joining the legendary folk artist are Joan Baez, Ani DiFranco, Arlo Guthrie, Ben Harper, Emmylou Harris, Richie Havens, Kris Kristofferson, Taj Mahal, Dave Matthews, Roger McGuinn, John Mellencamp, Peggy Seeger, Bruce Springsteen and many others who perform songs inspired by his music and activism.
Aug. 3: Monday at 7:30 p.m. on "Profile," Fran Stoddard talks with Cynthia Needham, internationally recognized microbiologist, author and television producer. She lives in Hyde Park, Vt.
At 8 p.m., "Qi Gong for Weight Loss" offers a routine designed to build core strength and increase metabolism.
At 9 p.m., Peter Marshall hosts "The Big Band Years," recalling the hits from World War II and beyond.
Aug. 4: Tuesday at 8 p.m. in "Motown Memories," the spotlight is on archival performances by five legends: The Temptations, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Diana Ross & The Supremes and Marvin Gaye.
At 9:30 p.m., "Great Performances" highlights the 2008 reunion of Eric Clapton and his Blind Faith bandmate Steve Winwood at Madison Square Garden.
Aug. 5: Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., "Loretta LaRoche: Juicy Living, Juicy Aging" features public television's queen of stress relief in her new special. She serves up helpful information to help people maintain energy and vitality.
At 10 p.m., "Levon Helm: Ramble at the Ryman" follows Helm and his band to their 2008 show in Nashville. Among his guests are John Hiatt, Sheryl Crow, Alison Krauss and Robert Plant.
Aug. 6: Thursday at 7:30 p.m., storyteller Willem Lange hosts "Unforgettable Vermont," a lighthearted excursion into the state's past compiled from VPT's popular nostalgia specials. The program explores themes of everyday life in the first half of the last century.
At 9 p.m., KC and The Sunshine Band host "Get Down Tonight: The Disco Explosion," a reunion of stars from the 1970s in new performances, along with clips from the archives. Guests include The Bee Gees, Donna Summer and Leo Sayer.
Aug. 7: Friday at 10 p.m., "Playing for Change: Peace Through Music" tells Mark Johnson's story of 10 years traveling the globe, recording littleknown musicians from diverse parts of the world. His goal was to bridge cultural differences through music.
Aug. 8: Saturday, the Britcom lineup changes a bit. There are two early installments of "As Time Goes By" at 8 and 8:40 p.m., followed by "Are You Being Served?" at 9:20 p.m. Mrs. Slocombe's cat is missing, and Mr. Humphries attempts to comfort her.
