NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

July 22

9:32 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a complaint from a citizen on Union Brook Road about a neighbors dog defecating on his lawn. Police responded to the residence in question and spoke with the dog owner and explained Northfield's animal control ordinance. The owner advised that they will take measures to prevent their dog from entering the neighbors property. No further action taken.

11:10 a.m. - Citizen Assist - Police received a complaint from a business owner of a bad check that was given to her by a customer. Police contacted the female who wrote the check and she advised that she intended on making good on the check. Police advised the complainant to contact the bank to make sure there were sufficient funds in the account before she attempted to cash it again.

2:14 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police received a complaint from a female party that she and her significant other were not getting along and wanted the police to respond to their residence so that she could retrieve her dog. Police responded to the Vine Street residence and the other party had already left the residence. No further action was taken.

2:16 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to Union Street for an out of control juvenile. Police spoke with the juvenile's mother who stated that he had hit her but did not want charges brought against him at this time. Police spoke with the juvenile and explained what his choices could be and he chose to apologize to his mother for his behavior. Police advised the juvenile that legal action will take place if this ever happens again.

6:11 p.m. - Threatening - Police responded to a report of threatening text messages. A juvenile had received threatening text messages from another juvenile. The juvenile admitted to sending the messages and said they were only a joke. The relative laws were explained to the juvenile and his parents.

July 23

2:42 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise disturbance at Dog Wood Glen. A resident reported a large group of people outside who were very loud. Upon arrival only two subjects were outside in the area. They advised they would go inside and talk as to not bother the neighbors.

9:37 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to Chandler Road for a report of damage to property caused by a vehicle leaving the roadway the night before. The complainant advised that a vehicle left the roadway in front of her house, wiping out a road sign and almost hit her parked vehicle in her driveway. The estimated damage to the lawn and road sign is $150.00. The incident was un-witnessed.

1:58 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint from the Northfield Savings Bank of a local male that is writing checks on a closed account. Police are investigating and are waiting for other agencies to respond with any checks this individual has written. Police are aware of approximately $1000.00 worth of check that have been written in Vermont and New Hampshire.

1:34 p.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police responded to West Hill Road in Northfield Vermont for a complaint of kids riding four wheelers on the road way without any helmets. Police located the operators at their residence and advised them to wear helmets while riding and that it was also illegal for them to be operating along a public highway. No further action taken.

1:39 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to Norwich University, Crawford Hall for a report of a stolen lap top computer. The complainant advised that the computer was in her room when she left for the morning and when she returned, it was missing. Nothing else was taken from her room. On 7-24-09 at approximately 5:30 p.m., I was advised that the computer had been located by the complainant in an acquaintance vehicle.

4:33 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to Central Street for a report of a stolen bicycle. The complainant advised that the bicycle was stolen from their door yard some time during the early afternoon. The bike is a Red Trek girls bike, model # 3700. If you see a red girls bike laying around or know anything about this theft, please call the Northfield Police.

11:53 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to K-T Lane for a noise disturbance. Officers discovered a small party going on. The homeowners agreed to keep the noise and music turned down.

July 24

1:36 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to the report of a possible drunk driver in the area of RT 12 and Cox Brook Road. A vehicle description was given by the complainant. No vehicles matching the description were located.

1:22 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to Dog Wood Glen Apartments, Unit D for a report of an ongoing domestic assault. When Police arrived, they found that there was no assault or any type of dispute for that matter. No further action taken.

2:31 p.m. - Robbery - Police responded to an activated panic alarm at Champlain Farms. A Caucasian male, wielding a knife and wearing a green ski mask attempted to rob the store. The suspect then fled the store and was last seen running north along the railroad tracks. The suspect was described as being approximately 5' 2" in height, wearing a black, blue and white checkered shirt, baggy blue jeans carrying a dark colored pack.

8:27 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to a residence on Overlook Drive to assist another agency with a patient pick up. The subject was transported to CVH for an evaluation.

July 25

7 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Dole Hill Road for the report of horses in the roadway. Upon arrival the owner of the horses was out trying to recover them. The owner was able to recover the horses later in the evening.

July 26

10:16 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police encountered a dog running loose on Depot Square. The dog, which did not have any I.D. tags, was taken into custody and transported to Barroffio's Kennel pending identification of its owner.

11:53 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of a canine loose on Hallstrom Road. Police responded to the area a short time after, but were not able to locate the animal in question in the immediate and surrounding areas.

July 28

8:52 a.m. - Runaway Juvenile - Police received a request to attempt to locate a runaway juvenile. The juvenile is in states custody and ran from her home in Montpelier. The juvenile was located at her boyfriends house in Northfield. She was transported to the Barre DCF office without incident.

11:32 a.m. - Found Property - A citizen gave an officer some items that had been found on Stony Brook Road. The items (including sunglasses) were found over the fourth of July weekend. If you have been looking for these items, please call 485-9181 and make arrangements to recover them.
