NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
July 29
9:35 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police while on patrol located two St. Bernards running loose in the intersection of West Hill Road and Halstrom Road. Police located the owner of the animals and advised him of the leash law and advised him that the animals have to be registered at the town clerks office.
9:05 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - Police received a complaint of threatening text messages. A caller reported a Northfield resident was sending him messages that he felt were threatening. The caller was given information on what to do if the messages continue.
July 30
5:50 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a residence on North Main Street for a report of a fight. When police arrived, they located all the involved parties and found that no crime had been committed. Police advised both parties involved to stay separated for a couple of days until they both cooled off.
8:24 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a complaint of a white vehicle on King Street driving erratically. The license plate provided came back registered to a red jeep. The vehicle in question was not located.
July 31
9:53 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to the Northfield Falls Trailer Park for a citizen dispute. A resident called and reported that
she had been verbally assaulted and then pushed by another resident in the park. Statements were obtained from some of the individuals involved and an investigation is underway.
August 1
12:04 a.m. - DUI - Police stopped a vehicle for squealing its tires as it pulled off a side road onto Route 12. The operator was discovered to be under the influence of alcohol with a roadside BAC of .094. His 18 year old passenger was also under the influence with a BAC of .125. He also admitted to drinking a beer while in the vehicle. Since the passenger had prior alcohol offenses, both were taken into custody, processed, cited into court.
6:14 a.m. - Burglary - Police responded to the Northfield Country Club for a reported burglary that happened during the night. The burglary occurred between 11 pm and 6:30 am. The perpetrator made off with approximately $100.00 in cash. The perpetrator smashed out a window causing $250.00 in damages and destroyed a cash register valued at $350.00. This incident is under investigation.
4:17 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a complaint of Vehicles racing up and down Rte. 12A and Little Northfield Road. Police responded to the area and searched the area for approximately 45 minutes but were unable to locate the vehicles. No further action taken.
7:37 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to the Northfield Falls Trailer Park for a citizen dispute. A resident called to report a suspicious incident that occurred involving her 7 year old daughter and another subject who lives in the park. The investigation revealed that the incident in question was not criminal in nature.
8:10 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a fight call on Little Northfield Road. A group of people were still in the area and one female was transported to CVH due to her injuries. Statements were collected and witnesses were interviewed. An investigation is ongoing. Officers from the Berlin Police Department and the Vermont State Police assisted in the investigation.
11:01 p.m. - MV Complaint - Officers responded to a residence on Dunham Drive for the report of a parked vehicle which had been struck in a driveway. The complainant advised the operator of the vehicle that struck her's failed to leave a note. A uniform crash report was completed. The officers will attempt to speak with other people who attended the gathering.
August 2
1:29 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Officers responded to a residence on Union Street for the report of some suspicious activity. The complainant advised it appeared someone had entered her apartment and moved things around, but had not taken anything. Later she reported receiving a strange phone call, and then saw a suspicious vehicle in her driveway. Officer were unable to locate the vehicle she described.
1:09 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police received a report of a disabled motor vehicle on East Street. It was advised that the vehicle had lost a tire and was otherwise inoperable. Arrangements were made for the vehicle to be removed on the following morning, and the vehicle remained parked on East Street.
7:27 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to the Dog Wood Glen apartment complex at the request of the Northfield Ambulance Service to assist with a patient who was being belligerent and uncooperative. Upon arrival the patient decided she did want to be transported and was brought to the hospital without further incident.
9:27 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Several concerned citizens called to report a male had been climbing on the water fountain on the common. The young man came over to the police station where he admitted to climbing on the fountain, and having it fall over. The man will be issued a citation for unlawful mischief.
August 3
8:29 a.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from North Main Street. A resident advised that over the weekend, he believed his lap-top had been stolen from his vehicle while it was parked at a North Main Street business. Police took a statement from the individual, and gathered specific information about the lap-top. The citizen came back a few days later to report the laptop had been found.
4 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police were advised of a motor vehicle left in the roadway at the intersection of Union Brook Road and Bean Road. Police responded and found the vehicle unoccupied with no one around. The vehicle was also blocking traffic turning from Union Brook Road onto Bean Road. A tow truck from Baroffio's was summoned to remove the vehicle, and they did so a short time later.
August 4
11:59 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police received a request to serve a citation upon a Freeman Road resident at the request of the VT State Police. Northfield Police located the individual and served the citation without incident.
5:26 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Central Street for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that the vehicle would park in front of her residence for a short time and then leave. This had been reoccurring for the past few weeks. Upon arrival, Police found that a Norwich University student had parked her vehicle and was using her cell phone, and that was the only good place she had for reception.
8:10 p.m. - Found Property - An officer responded to the common to retrieve a scale which had been left behind by a vendor at the Farmers Market. The scale was taken to the police station until it can be returned to the owner.
9:06 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer responded to Cemetery Street for the report of people fighting. Upon arrival the officer spoke with a group of people who advised they had been having a verbal argument. The parties had already going their separate ways.
