NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

August 5

8:22 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police received a report of a vandalism at the Northfield Elementary School. Upon arrival, Police met with school representatives and viewed the damages. It appeared that someone had punched several holes in a sheet-rock wall. Police examined and photographed the scene. School Officials will be conducting an internal investigation, and a Police investigation is ongoing.

8:51 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to Hallstrom Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Police found that a motor vehicle had lost control on the roadway causing it to roll over. The operator was uninjured. Police completed a crash report for the operator, and the vehicle was removed from the scene by North Main Towing Service.

9:42 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of a theft from East Street. The complainant advised that sometime overnight, someone had entered her unlocked vehicle and taken items. At the time of the complaint, the complainant advised that a tobacco pipe and a tire iron were missing from the vehicle. No other items were described as being missing at the time of the complaint.

11:19 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a call from a local convenience store reporting that they had a friendly skinny black female dog hanging around the store parking lot. There were multiple tags on the collar, but none of them had current information. The animal control officer was called to pick up the canine and give her a safe place to wait for her owner.

1:31 p.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle on Central Street. The caller reported that he had parked his car on Central Street at approximately 1 a.m. and upon returning at approximately 2:45 AM, he found that his I-Pod and an associated cable was missing. Anyone having information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Northfield Police Department at 802-485- 9181.

5:49 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to the Northfield Country Club for the report of a vehicle being hit with a golf ball. The complainant wanted to file a report. The golf course and the complainant agreed to handle the situation.

August 6

10:37 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police along with Northfield Fire and Northfield Ambulance responded to 125 Smith Hill Road for a reported structure fire. A Burning electrical odor and smoke was in the residence and shortly after arrival, a burning lead cord was located. The fire caused minimal damage to the residence.

12:25 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police received a complaint of access to his property being blocked by barricades. The complainant advised that he has a deeded right of way across the property. The complainant is currently in a lawsuit with the property owner and the town of Northfield over this property. Police advised the complainant that we would send his complaint up to the states attorney for review.

1:04 p.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police received a complaint from an area business of a bad check that they have been attempting to collect on since May 2009. Police contacted the persons involved and they will be paying the bill on Monday, 8-10-09 or charges will be brought against him for false token and theft of services.

August 7

Noon - Citizen Dispute - Police received a complaint of phone harassment. The complainant advised that a male party from Northfield kept calling him attempting to sell him items even after he told him not to call back. The complainant had placed an ad in the paper advertising that he was buying junk. Police advised the complainant that it was not phone harassment but would ask the citizen to stop calling.

August 8

1 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to a residence on Spring Street for the report of a noise complaint. Upon arrival Officers could hear voices from the backyard where people were gathered around a fire. Officer spoke with a tenant, and advised him of the complaint. He advised he would have people come inside, and be more conscientious about the noise.

2:47 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - Officers responded to a residence on Vine Street for the report of a family fight. Upon arrival officers spoke with all parties involved and separated the disputing parties for the night. The argument stemmed from a dispute over room assignments.

11:04 a.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to Vine Street for a report of kids shooting BB guns. Witnesses stated that they thought they were shooting at small animals and that several BB's had bounced off his residence. Police located the parents of the juveniles and the guns have been taken away.

11:30 a.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint of stolen medication. The complainant advised that after she returned later in the morning after the altercation they earlier in the morning, she found her pills to be missing. She believes it was her ex partner or her new girl friend that removed the medication.

7:28 p.m. - Foot Patrol - An officer conducted foot patrol of he common area during a concert. The band played very well much to the enjoyment of the crowd.

10:59 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Officers responded to a residence on Vermont Route 12 south in Roxbury at the request of the Vermont State Police to assist with the report of a large underage drinking party. The officers assisted the State Police as needed.

August 9

9:53 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer responded to South Village Mobile for the report of suspicious vehicles driving around in the parking lot near closing time. The Officer did not locate any suspicious vehicles. The officer stayed in the area until the clerk had secured the store for the night.

10:56 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer responded to the area of Union Street for the report of suspicious people "lurking in the bushes". The officer canvassed the area and spoke with several people who were outside. The officer was unable to locate anyone suspicious.

August 10

12:32 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police were advised of two loose dogs in the area of Hallstrom Road. The caller reported that the loose dogs had gotten into his chickens and were causing a disturbance. The caller had shooed the dogs away, and subsequently called the Police. Police are attempting to determine that dogs owners at this time.

1:46 p.m. - Directed Patrol - Police will be conducting extra patrols on VT RT 12A in response to citizen complaints about speeding motor vehicles in the area. Extra patrols will be continuing for an indefinite amount of time. Police are urging motorists in the area to be please be cognizant of your speed and to be mindful of the posted speed limits.

August 11

1 p.m. - Theft of Automobile - Police received a report of a theft of a motor vehicle from Slate Avenue. Police gathered information about the vehicle and broad-casted a BOL. It was believed the vehicle was taken sometime overnight. A shorttime later, the vehicle was located on Vine Street. Police are currently investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Northfield Police at 485-9181.

3:43 p.m. - Found Property - Police received a bicycle that had been found in the river just off of Water Street. The blue mountain bicycle was received by police and upon checking the bicycle, it was found that it was registered with the Police Department's bicycle registration program. Police are attempting to locate the owner of the bicycle, and will maintain custody of the bicycle until the owner is contacted.

4:30 p.m. - Found Property - Police took custody of a small black case and its contents from a Northfield resident. The resident reported that while bicycling, the case was found on the roadside of VT RT 64. Inside the case was a small amount or marijuana, and two pipes commonly used to smoke marijuana. No information about the owner of the case was found inside of it. The case and contents were destroyed.
