NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

August 12

1:41 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Pleasant Street for a report of a loose horse. Police located the horse and chased it back into its coral.

4:53 p.m. - Vehicle towed - Police stopped a vehicle for doing 46 in a 30 zone and for failing to use turn signals. The operator at the time of the stop did not have a valid operators license and no one else in the vehicle had a drivers license. The vehicle was towed by North Main Service and the operator received a VCVC for no license. The operator received written warnings for speed and failure to use a turn signal.

August 13

3:50 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded with Northfield Rescue to a reported female who was intoxicated and may have overdosed on some medication. The female was found to be of legal age and was transported to CVH by Northfield Rescue. No further police involvement.

9:16 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a complaint of a green Jeep speeding up and down Elm Street. Police responded and patrolled the area but did not locate any violations. Police have been receiving an increasing amount of complaints about speeding motorist through out Northfield.

1:32 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A Northfield resident called to report that he believes that his tenant's are dealing drugs. The complainant advised that there is a lot of traffic in and out of the building and that he can smell the odor of marijuana when they are smoking it. The resident was urged to call us back when he is observing the violations.

2:02 p.m. - Theft of Automobile - Police responded to China Star for a report of a stolen vehicle. The female complainant advised that she had only gone into the restaurant for a minute and when she came out the car was gone. The vehicle was located a short time later over the embankment. The complainant had left the vehicle in gear and it rolled out of the parking lot over the embankment. There was no apparent damage to the vehicle.

5:27 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a Business on Main Street for the report of a suspicious incident involving old coins being used to make a purchase. Information was gathered from the manager about the subject and the nature of the incident. An investigation is underway

5:53 p.m. - Accident PI - Police responded to a motorcycle accident on South Main Street near Washington Street. The operator of the motorcycle was unable to stop for a vehicle that was executing a left turn. The operator locked up the brakes and laid the bike on its side. The operator sustained injuries and was transported to the Central Vermont Hospital by Northfield Rescue.

7:59 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a residence on Wallace Road for a neighbor dispute. A resident called and reported that a neighbor whom she has a current Notice Against Trespass on had gone onto her property and cut her grass with a bush-hog. An investigation is underway.

August 14

4:05 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to Garvey Hill Road for the report of fireworks near the soccer fields. No one with fireworks was located in the area. Their were some firecracker wrappers in the roadway near the area.

1:54 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Pleasant Street for a residents horses being loose. Police received help in corralling the horses but the owner needs to fix the fence.

4:51 p.m. - Directed Patrol - Police was undergoing directed patrol on VT Rte. 12A in Northfield Vermont. Police have been receiving multiple complaints about speed along this section of highway and strict enforcement will be conducted in this area.

August 15

6:56 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police located several road cones on the front porch of a Central Street residence. Police attempted to make contact with the residents, but no one answered the door or phone. Several of the cones had Police markings on them, and they were retrieved. The other cones were left at the residence, since they were not marked. Once Police speak with the homeowners, further action can be taken.

10:45 a.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint of tire chains being stolen from a tractor. The complainant stated that he noticed that one of the chains was missing on 8-14-09 and he walked the field that he was brush hogging to locate it. The complainant believes that the chain was taken because he was unable to locate it.

5:44 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of an intoxicated female sitting on a lawn off of Rte. 12 South. The female had left the area before police arrived and was advised that she walked back up the Mountain to where the Bonefest was taking place. Police where unable to locate the female and no further action was taken.

10:56 p.m. - Intoxicated Person - The department was advised that there was someone walking on Vt Rt 12 N that appeared intoxicated. The officer attempted to locate the individual to see if any assistance was needed. Unable to locate.

August 16

1:13 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to I-89 at the request of the State Police to remove a deer from the roadway. The deer was located but it had been mutilated and scattered.

2:10 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A citizen called the department to advise they had seen someone walking outside their kitchen window. The officers responded to the area and checked around the house. A check of the immediate area was also conducted. There was no one seen in the area.

August 17

9:56 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Union Street for multiple reports of an injured raccoon. Upon arrival, Police found a raccoon with an obvious head injury. Police lead it to the side of the road, where it was dispatched. The VT Fish and Wildlife Department was contacted in the event they wanted to test it for rabies, but they declined.

1:51 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police met with an individual at the Northfield Police Department in regards to a restraining order. The order was left at the Northfield Police Department in the event there are any incidents involving the defendant of the order. The order was placed on file.

4:20 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to I.D. White Drive on the Norwich University campus for a report of a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival, Police found that one vehicle had struck a parked vehicle, causing minor damage. Police completed a crash report for the operators.

8:17 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to a residence on Pleasant Street to assist the Fire and Ambulance departments with an emergency call. The scene was evaluated and the patient was cleared.

August 18

12:37 a.m. - Juvenile Problem - An officer responded to the Comisky School for the report of suspicious activity. Upon arrival I located several juveniles who had been consuming alcohol. They were issued referrals to the Washington County Teen Alcohol Safety Program. Further investigation revealed some juveniles had entered the school and caused minor damage. The officer will be re-interviewing several people about the damage.

8:57 a.m. - Theft of Automobile - Police received a report a stolen vehicle from Union Brook Road. Upon arrival, Police met with the vehicle owner and determined that the vehicle had been left on Vine Street overnight and was not actually stolen. The owner made arrangements to retrieve the vehicle later in the day.

10:12 a.m. - Custodial Interference - The department was contacted by a mother from another town. Her child was at his father's in Northfield and she was unable to contact him. She was expecting the child home and would like assistance in making that happen. The officer help resolve the break down in communications.

4:27 p.m. - Traffic Hazard - An officer noticed a box of clay pigeons in the travel portion of Cox Brook Road. The broken pieces had created a traffic hazard. The officer temporarily closed the travel lane and cleared the debris.
