NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
August 19
12:56 a.m. - MV Complaint - A local store clerk called to report an possibly intoxicated driver traveling south on North Main Street. The officer was unable to locate the vehicle in question.
7:43 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of a burglary that occurred sometime earlier in the morning at Dogwood Glen. The complainant advised that they believe they know who did it. The complainant advised that her sister's cell phone and charger were stolen from their residence. Police are investigating.
7:18 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Sanders Drive for a suspicious incident. A resident called to report a suspicious person and vehicle were on their property. A notice against trespass was issued to the subject.
9:25 p.m. - Assault - Police received a complaint from a Barre resident who said he was assaulted by 5 male subjects while he was walking by Video's and More. He could not identify any of the attackers and did not want medical attention. The assault took place approx 9:15 pm. If anyone witnessed this incident please contact the Northfield Police Department.
August 20
4 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a complaint from the Central Vermont Animal Shelter that a resident on Croney Drive was abusing animals. The complaint was phoned in to the animal shelter as anonymous. Police responded and found no signs or evidence of what was reported. This complaint was unfounded.
4:34 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a complaint from an elderly dog owner that her dog had gotten loose and that she needed help catching the animal. Neighbors caught the animal before police arrived. No further action taken.
9:05 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the area of Rt 12a and Little Northfield Road for a family disturbance. An officer responded to the scene and gathered information. The parties were separated and an investigation is underway for property damage that resulted from the altercation.
August 21
2:35 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - While on patrol within the Town of Northfield, Officers found that the front door of the Jr. High School in Northfield had what appears to be chocolate sauce thrown all over the door and windows. Police suspect the damage was caused sometime over the night time hours.
7:59 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to a complaint of vandalism to a motor vehicle on Central Street. The driver side window on the complainants vehicle had been shot out with a BB gun sometime during the night causing $364.00 in damages. Other vehicles and residents were hit during the night by the vandals in the town and village of Northfield causing significant damage.
12:47 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to North Main Street for a report of vandalism to a residence. The complainant advised that someone had shot out his living room window with a bb gun sometime during the night. The bb was recovered and it caused approximately $100.00 in damages to the residence.
2:10 p.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police responded to Depot Square Pizza for reported bad checks. Police spoke with the owner and advised him on what he needed to do before police can charge individuals for the bad checks. Police will be following up with the owner in 15 days to get the checks and statements.
2:49 p.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police responded to Trombley's Flower Shop for a report of bad checks. Police advised the complainant on what to do before police can take any legal action. The female wrote a check on an account with insufficient funds for the amount $140.56. Police recently spoke to this individual about witting bad checks and she assured police that it would stop but it has not.
9:01 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to a residence on North Main Street for a Family fight. Upon arrival officers met with a female resident and ultimately took a male subject into protective custody and transported him to Barre City for Detox.
August 22
9:05 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to Water Street for a report of a vandalism. Upon arrival, Police found that a window had been smashed in a parked motor vehicle sometime overnight. Police photographed the damages and are currently investigating further. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Northfield Police Department at 485-9181.
7:47 p.m. - Threatening - Police responded to a threatening complaint at Cumberland Farms. A resident of Cherry Street reported that another resident had threatened several people that were at the residence together. The complainant advised the other resident was very intoxicated. The complainant was not going back to the residence. No further complaints were received concerning this matter.
August 23
11:05 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to a North Main Street convenience store for a report of a black dog running astray. Upon arrival, Police took custody of the animal from a store employee. Police were not able to locate an up-to-date dog registration on the dog's collar. The dog was transported to Baroffio's Kennel pending identification of its owner.
3:03 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police located a vehicle left at the roadside that was infringing upon the public highway of Water Street. Police also saw that the front tires were completely bald and were in dire need of replacement. Attempts to contact the owners were fruitless and the vehicle was towed by North Main Towing. The owner of the vehicle was issued a VT Civil Violation Complaint for 'Defective Equipment.'
3:41 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a Norwich University parking lot for a report of a suspicious package beneath a vehicle. Upon arrival, Police found that the "package" was actually a seat cushion wrapped with rope. The cushion was turned over to Norwich University personnel for disposal.
August 24
9:11 a.m. - Litter/Pollution/Public Health - Police responded to Slaughterhouse Road for a littering complaint. It was advised that a sofa had been disposed into the middle of the river. Upon arrival, Police confirmed the same and contacted the Public Works Department so it could be removed. If the owner is identified, enforcement action will be taken for illegal dumping and littering.
11:07 a.m. - Accident PD - Police received a report of a minor motor vehicle collision on North Main Street. Upon arrival, Police determined that a minor rear-end collision occurred and there were no injuries. Police completed a crash report for both of the operators involved in the collision and both vehicles were driven from the scene.
2:16 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police received a report of a gas drive from a North Main Street gas station. A license plate was obtained by the store clerk and forwarded to Police. Police made contact with the operator of the vehicle, who returned to pay for the gas. It appeared that the gas pumps had some sort of an error reading the credit card used to pay for the gas, and there was no intent of the actual theft.
August 25
11:59 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police met with residents from a Houston Street household about a suspicious individual. It was reported to Police that a man was seen standing next to a family vehicle in the driveway, and subsequently left area on foot. Police were told that the incident occurred around 11:00. Police obtained a description of the man, but did not have any contact with him upon checking the area.
12:21 p.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from a Wall Street establishment. It was reported that money had come up missing on three separate occasions from personal belongings. Police are investigating for possible suspects.
2:06 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of animal problem on Cemetery Street. The Humane Society reported that they had received a complaint about the animal, and requested that Police respond to investigate and substantiate the claim if needed.
