NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

August 26

9:49 a.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - A local business requested an officer to investigate a bad check. The check was taken in good faith and has been returned by the bank because the account was closed.

1:42 p.m. - Parking Problem - Police responded to East Street for a reported parking problem that has been going on for several days. Police responded and made contact with the vehicle and operator of this vehicle that was obstructing traffic.

August 27

1:18 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise disturbance on Water Street. The tenant was issued a warning for noise in the nighttime and the small group of people decided to go inside for the rest of the evening.

10:23 a.m. - Lost Property - Police had turned into them a wallet that had been recovered at Norwich University. Police contacted the owner of the wallet and left a message for him to pick it up at the Northfield Police Station.

12:26 p.m. - Directed Patrol - Police received a complaint of excessive speeds on the Old Mill Hill Road in Northfield Vermont. Police will be monitoring the speeds and issuing Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for any violations observed.

August 28

10:53 a.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint from a citizen about her daughter stealing money that was supposed to be used for the rent and mortgage payment. The complainant is currently providing the police with the bank statements and other evidence that will show the violation. Charges are expected to be filed with in the next couple of weeks.

12:30 p.m. - Animal Problem Police received a report of a male walking his unleashed pit bull along North Main Street in Northfield. The complainant advised that the dog wasn't doing anything wrong but he wanted something done before it injured someone. There was no violation at this time and when police arrived in the area, the dog and owner were already gone.

10:58 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a residence on Water Street for a bon fire that was out of control. Upon arrival people were using fire extinguishers to put the fire out. Northfield Fire Department responded and finished extinguishing the fire. The Fire Marshall was also on scene. A burn permit had not been secured prior to the fire.

August 29

4:45 p.m. - Parking Problem - Police received a report of a parking problem in front of a residence on Central Street. Police were advised that a vehicle was parked in front of a driveway at the residence. Upon arrival, Police found that the vehicle in question was completely blocking access to the driveway. The vehicle was ticketed and towed by North Main Towing Service.

August 30

8:42 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to a VT RT 12S residence for a report of a vandalism to a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, Police met with the victim and found that the vehicle had been 'keyed' overnight. It was suspected that vandalism happened at the victim's place of employment. The damage was photographed, and a possible suspect was identified by the victim. Police will be attempting to locate that individual.

11:25 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer responded to the area of Washington Street and Central Street for the report of a loud party. Upon arrival the officer could hear some people talking in a driveway. He spoke with them about the noise complaint, and advised them their voices were carrying. They advised they would go inside.

August 31 1:44 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer was dispatched to the report of a golf cart being driven around the Elm Street and Prospect Street neighborhood. I canvassed the area but was unable to locate the golf cart.

12:54 a.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to Doyon Road with a dog owner to help locate her missing dog. A Doyon Road resident recovered the canine running loose at Cumberland Farms and had contacted the owner. Police met with the dog owner and assisted her in locating the Doyon Road residence where the owner and canine were re-united.

1:11 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to the area of Byam Hill for a report of a motor vehicle complaint. It was advised that a motorcyclist was witnessed riding in the area without a helmet. Upon arrival, Police canvassed the area but were unable to locate the motorcyclist.

1:37 p.m. - Found Property - Police received a set of keys that were found on the Norwich University Rugby Field on Water Street. The keys were identified as Norwich University keys, and they were turned over to Norwich University Security so they could be returned to their proper owner.

3:41 p.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from the Norwich University campus. Norwich University officials reported that a golf cart had been stolen.

6:26 p.m. - MV Complaint - An officer responded to the Norwich University campus for the report of a hit and run crash. Upon the officer's arrival he spoke with the complainant who advised his vehicle had been struck, while parked in a parking space. Photographs of the damage were taken and a crash report was completed.

11:37 p.m. - Parking Problem - An officer responded to a residence on Pleasant Street for the report of a vehicle parked in a way to prohibit traffic. Upon arrival the officer identified the owner and advised him of the complaint, and warned him about the traffic ordinances.

September 1

8:20 a.m. - Theft - Police received a report of theft from a Vine Street residence. It was advised that two Adirondack chairs were missing from the residence. The chairs were described as being custom made from natural wood. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Northfield Police Department at 802- 485-9181.

1);12 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police received a report of a vandalism at Dogwood Glen. Police met with the complainant who advised that the mailboxes near the 'A' building had been knocked over. It appeared that the mailbox had no significant damage, but that it needed to be remounted into its concrete base. Police contacted the VT Housing Authority and advised them of the damages, so the appropriate repairs could be made.

1):25 a.m. - Citizen Assist - Police received a report that at the Wall Street railroad crossing, the lights were flashing and the bells were ringing, but there was no train coming. Police contacted the railroad company who advised that railroad workers were doing work south of the crossing, which was triggering the alarm. The railroad company advised that this would be occurring intermittently throughout the day.

3:55 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to I-89S to assist the VT State Police. VT State Police received a report of a green Subaru traveling southbound at a speed of approximately 100 MPH, and passing vehicles on the right. A Northfield Police unit was in the area and responded to Exit 5 to intercept the vehicle. Police stood-by in the area, but did not make any contact with the vehicle.

7:13 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to a motor vehicle complaint on Dole Hill Road. A motorist had slid off the road into the ditch and was unable to get back on the road. A friend had been notified and he was able to pull the vehicle out for her and get her on her way.
