News Ad Director Resigns, Promotions Come From Within
Kathleen Morrow Bock who had been advertising director for the News has resigned from her position.
She informed management last week that she was resigning because she no longer wanted to aggressively pursue advertising sales and wished to concentrate on more esoteric endeavors.
She will be sorely missed as she was responsible for bringing many new and inventive ideas to the paper including, most recently, the Labor Day advertising insert which included the Labor Day Weekend celebration program.
The paper published the program free of charge to the observances committee while local advertisers helped to cover the cost of publication.
She will be replaced by Rob Wills who has been Mrs. Bock's associate in advertising for the last year.
Mr. Wills has, over the last year, become an extremely competent advertising representative and has been instrumental in developing new themes and ways for advertisers to present their products.
Mr. Wills started with the paper under the management of John Donahue writing human interest articles and doing in depth reporting. He was brought onto the advertising team in August, 2008.
Shannon Rizzotto has also come on board to assist in advertising sales and promotion. Mr. Rizzotto has been a columnist for the paper penning "Your Backyard" which ran throughout this previous summer.
Durwood Phillips, the publisher, said that the News has been very fortunate to be able to develop new talent from within the ranks of our writing and reporting staff.
"We are a small publication and if we can bring people up from within our staff to help to build our advertising base, this shows that we are developing a team that can assure that the paper will continue on into the future," he said.
