NORTHFIELD FALLS - Mary Rose Martin, 73, died in Leesburg, Florida on September 10, 2009.

She was born in Northfield on August 9, 1936, the daughter of William & Helen (Swann) Amell. She attended Northfield Schools.

She had been married to John Andrew Ashford. She married Leaman Martin in Northfield in 1971.

She worked many years for Nantanna Woolen Mill, Rabbit Hollow Knitting Mill, both of Northfield and National Life in Montpelier, retiring in 1989, after ten years of service.

She enjoyed bird watching, animals, dancing and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband Leaman Martin of Northfield Falls; two children, Linda Yonkers of Leesburg, Florida, David Ashford of Washington; 6 siblings, Lewis Amell of Northfield Falls, Arthur Amell of Northfield, Harvey Amell of Northfield Falls, Michael Amell of Northfield, Evelyn Premont of Northfield, Phyllis Beauchemin of Brookfield; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren: and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her brother, William "Sonny" Amell; her sisters, Anita Amell , Beverly Jarvis and her nephew, Kevin Amell.

A memorial service was held at the Kingston Funeral Home on 35 Slate Avenue in Northfield. Burial will take place at a later date in the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.
