NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
September 23
1:03 A.M. Citizen Dispute - An officer responded to the High School for the report of an altercation which had occurred the day prior. Upon speaking with the administration and a student who was involved the officer determined the school's could handle the incident in house.
10:28 a.m. - Parking Problem - An officer received a report of a parking problem on the corner of Union and Wall. Upon arrival I discovered that a boat was parked within 20 feet of a cross walk. I made contact with the owner and requested that the boat be moved. The owner did move the boat. No further action.
4:02 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a complaint of a citizen dispute at the Falls Trailer Park. The complainant advised that her neighbor was yelling and swearing at her child. The other party advised that she spoke to the child about removing an article from her property but did not swear at the child. All parties were advised to stay away from each other.
3:04 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to Water Street for a citizen Dispute. The complainant advised that the neighbors child was threatening her kids with an ax. Police spoke with all parties involved and it was determined that no ax was involved and that the complainants kids were the instigators of the dispute. Both parties decided that the kids should not be allowed to play with each other.
September 24
10:47 a.m. - Accident PD - Police received a report of a minor two car crash on South Main Street. Upon arrival, Police determined that a vehicle had accidentally backed into a parked vehicle. Police completed a crash report for the operators involved in the collision. Both vehicles were drive-able and were driven away from the scene.
11:06 a.m. - Accident PI - A report of a one car accident on West Hill Road was received by police. Upon arrival an officer found that in the 1600 block a vehicle had lost control and jumped the guard rail. One person was at the scene and medical was toned. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $2500. Damage to the guard rail was estimated to be $1500. Northfield Public works was notified. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
6:37 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Cemetery Street for the report of kids playing on gravestones. The children were located and their mother was talked to about the kids being in the Cemetery. She said she would take care of the situation.
9:50 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police responded to a residence in the Falls Trailer Park for a citizen dispute. A resident had kicked out her boyfriend and she wanted a Notice Against Trespass served on him. The boyfriend was located and the paperwork was served. He informed the police that he had no intention of going back.
September 25
12:03 p.m. - Fraud - Police received a complaint of fraud from a checking account. The complainant advised that a company obtained monies from his checking account without his permission for a service that he never ordered. The complainant was advised by the bank to file a report with the police so that his account could credit the missing monies.
2:34 p.m. - Non-sufficient Funds Check - Police received a complaint of an insufficient funds check and movies that were never returned. Police attempted to make contact with the woman but she has not returned my call or responded to the note in the door. The complainant advised that they have called and left messages and mailed her several notices of overdue movies and notice of the insufficient funds check without any response from her.
3:55 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to a motor vehicle complaint on Garvey Hill Road. The complainant advised that a maroon Dodge pick up came racing up the hill passing stopped vehicles. He further advised that it almost passed a school bus displaying red flashing stop lamps and stop sign. The complainant spoke to the operator and the operator gave him attitude. Police will be making contact with the operator.
11:58 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police responded to a citizens complaint concerning a simple assault. The complainant advised that he was visiting a family member when another family member who was also visiting hit him upside the head. There were no injuries. Charges are pending written statements from all parties involved.
September 26
11:18 a.m. - Trespassing - An officer received a statement of a trespass situation on Wall Street. The investigation will continue.
September 27
1 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer responded to a residence on South Main Street for the report of a noise disturbance. Upon arrival the office spoke with several people outside the residence who were listening to a radio. The officer advised them of the complaint and they turned the radio off.
10:51 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of a suspicious circumstance at a residence on Water Street. It was advised that an individual had walked past the residence motioning and insinuating the residents to fight. No fight took place, but the resident wanted to consult with the Police in an effort to make them aware of the issue. Police will be attempting to locate the individual for further questioning.
11:36 a.m. - DLS - A man, 22, of Brookfield, CT was arrested for Criminal-DLS. A Northfield Police Officer was on patrol on VT RT 12 South. Police stopped a vehicle traveling southbound at 54 MPH in a 40 MPH zone. The operator was identified via his CT license. A check with the VT DMV showed he was criminally suspended due to a DUI. He was taken into custody and later released upon citation to appear at court on 11-5-09 at 12:30.
September 28
7:29 a.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from Little Northfield Road. Sometime overnight, a work trailer was forcibly entered, and a slew of tools were taken. Police photographed the scene, and are currently investigating the incident further. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Northfield Police Department at 802-485-9181.
3:45 p.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from Plaza Drive. Police were advised that a purse was stolen from a locked motor vehicle. Police examined the vehicle and found that it showed no signs of forced entry. The complainant advised she is the only person who has a key to the vehicle. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious is urged to contact the Northfield Police Department at 485-9181.
5 p.m. - Theft - Police received a report of a theft from the Norwich University campus. A student reported that he had accidentally dropped his wallet, but had been recovered by another student and turned over to an R/A. Upon receiving the wallet, cash was missing from it. Police were able to identify possible suspects, and have security surveillance footage from the incident. Police are investigating further.
September 29
9:17 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of an animal problem on Hallstrom Road. A resident advised that a neighbors two loose dogs had reportedly gotten into her chickens. Police identified the owners of the canines and made contact. The owner was advised of the animal control ordinance in the Town of Northfield, and was given a warning for the loose canines.
2:24 p.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police received a report of a motor vehicle complaint on Vine Street. The caller reported that during a school fire drill, they had temporarily closed the road for the safety of exiting students. At this time, a vehicle arrived in a hasty manner and became belligerent with a faculty member who had stopped traffic. A license plate was obtained and Police will follow up with the operator.
2:49 pm. - MV Complaint - Police received a motor vehicle complaint on VT RT 12N. The caller reported that a vehicle was operating unsafely, and had thrown an object at her vehicle. Shortly after, while on patrol, police located the vehicle and stopped it on Water Street. The individual who threw the object was issued a warning .
