Letters to the Editor It's a Free Country — Opinions Differ — All Count
ABRIEF NOTE of appreciation to all who attended the recent health care forum at the Kreitzberg Library at Norwich University. Almost fifty people attended the event to hear different perspectives on the current, important health care discussion taking place in our country. Topics ranged from discussion of single-payer health care reform to what is politically realistic in today's economic climate. Panelists included Dr. Deb Richter, former AHS Secretary Con Hogan, Peter Sterling of the Vermont Campaign for Health Care Security, and Greg Marchildon, State Director of AARP. They all gave freely of their time and expertise to the Northfield community. Their testimony was detailed, informative, and constructive.
All attending were civil, engaged, and asked intelligent and informed questions. Many brought contributions of nonperishable food items for donation to CERV, our local foodshelf. Together we collected more than 30 pounds of food for hungry families. It is a testament to our engaged, active, and thoughtful citizenry that so many took the time not only to participate in this important forum, but to contribute something for those in need as well.
Finally, thanks to Norwich University and Emily Byrne in the nursing program for providing the venue. The multipurpose room was perfect for the size and scope of this community forum, and the library staff were all exceptionally courteous and helpful before, during, and after the event.
Thanks to all for making the evening a wonderful success.
