The Norwich Men's Rugby team advanced to 4 - 2 on the season when the downed St. Michael's 17 - 5 in the rain last Saturday at the Rugby pitch on Water Street. Junior scrum-half Byron Stueber (center) had a busy afternoon for the Cadets aas he was seemingly everywhere on the field displaying his running and kicking skills. St. Michael's College traveled to Northfield on a damp Homecoming Weekend, and the Norwich University men's rugby team sent them home with a 17-5 defeat.

The Cadets jumped on the scoreboard first at the 16th minute with a try scored between the posts by sophomore flanker Josh Nowak. Freshman flyhalf Chris Hein's conversion made the score 7-0 in favor of Norwich. NU continued to dominate possession throughout the half but was unable to convert.

Senior winger Andy Maio scored from a counter attack on the right side of the pitch six minutes into the half to extend Norwich's lead to 12-0. At the 33rd minute, junior flanker Eric Poalino scored the third try as he broke weak side to the in-goal to give Norwich a commanding 17- 0 advantage.

The Cadets held strong until the 75th minute when St. Michael's scored an unconverted try.

"The boys worked hard today in defense, but had trouble with continuity in attack," said Norwich head coach Bob Weggler. "It was great day for Norwich Rugby. Six matches were played in total, two women matches with an alumni game, and two men matches with an alumni game."

Norwich's second side displayed fine rugby by beating St. Michael's 32-7 in a full 80- minute match.

The freshman squad travels to Dartmouth Sunday, Oct. 4, to take on the Big Green. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.

The Norwich varsity returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Cadets travel to Burlington, Vt., to battle the University of Vermont.
