NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
September 30
8:25 a.m. - Animal Problem Police responded to Dole Hill Road for a report of two loose pit bull dogs. Police collected the animals and transported them to The dog pound. The owner was given a Vermont Municipal Ordinance Complaint for dogs running at large.
9:25 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to 72 Western ave for a report of vandalism to a storage shed. It appeared that someone had climbed up onto the aluminum shed and it started to buckle in places under the weight of the person. The estimated damages to the shed where approximately $50.00.
11:29 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to 373 Vine Street for a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle. The complainant advised that two tires on his vehicle had been slashed. Police observed that both tires
had been slashed and estimated the damage to the vehicle to be approximately $90.00.
1:17 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police received a complaint of from a local business about an obnoxious individual. The complainant advised that the person in question was rude and threatening towards him and other employees. The complainant asked that trespass notices be served on this party. The notices were served
3:49 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a two vehicle accident in the parking lot of the Grand Union. There was no reported injuries and both vehicles sustained damage. There was approximately $2000.00 in combined damages and both parties are required to file a State Accident report.
8:53 p.m. - DUI - A man, age 58, of Northfield was arrested for DUI. An officer responded to Union Street for the report of a possible drunk driver. The officer located the vehicle parked at a residence. During the subsequent investigation the man admitted to driving the vehicle. He performed the standardized field sobriety exercises and was transported to the Northfield police station for processing.
October 1
7:59 a.m. - Accident PI - Police responded to Union Brook Road for a motor vehicle accident. An East bound 2005 Subaru Legacy left the east bound lane, striking and breaking a telephone pole, and rolled down an embankment coming to rest against trees. The female operator was transported to Central Vermont Hospital with injuries. The vehicle was totaled in the accident and was towed by North Main Service.
12:43 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a complaint of a suspicious person selling construction and power tools out of the back of his truck. Police located the vehicle and operator and after a short investigation it was determined that he was a legitimate sales person.
1:55 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer received a call from the complainant advising that someone had struck his vehicle while it was parked in a parking lot. I met with the complainant and collected evidence left at the scene. Damage to the vehicle was estimated to be $500. The vehicle was parked on Belknap Avenue. Anyone having information concerning this "Leaving the Scene of an accident" is encouraged to call the Northfield Police Department.
5:30 p.m. -MV Complaint - Police received a complaint of a citizen driving erratically and acting very disorderly in the construction zone on Wall Street. Many of the construction employees have observed this individual failing to stop for the traffic control guards and have listened to his abusive outburst and continual one finger wave. Police will be patrolling this area.
October 2
1:30 p.m. - Citizen Assist - The department was advised of a dog in a parked vehicle. The vehicle was on Norwich campus. Norwich Security was contacted and they could not find the vehicle. There were no cars parked in the area that was reported matching the description and plate given.
4:04 p.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police ticketed and towed a vehicle that was parked in the East bound lane of Central Street causing a traffic hazard.
4:30 p.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police ticked a vehicle that was parked illegally on Central Street restricting the flow of traffic down to one lane. The vehicle was moved a short time later.
October 3
12:11 p.m. - Traffic Hazard - Police ticketed several vehicles on Central Street that were parked in a no parking zone and disrupting the general flow of traffic.
12:48 p.m. - Sex Offender Registry - Jason Madison age 33 of Northfield Vermont was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender. Madison failed to register his new address with the Vermont Sexual Offender Registry after moving here from Brookfield Vermont. Madison was issued a quick citation to appear in the Washington County District Court on 10-5-09 at 12:00 pm to answer the charge.
6:16 p.m. - 911 Hangup Call - Police responded to 302 Water Street for a 911 hang up call. 911 operators stated that on the call back a female could be heard yelling at someone and the male that answered stated things were fine. Police responded and spoke with the female who was upset because the boy friend did not supervise their young children while she was at work and a large mess was made.
6:31 p.m. - Burglary - Police responded to a business on Gould Road for for a report of a burglar alarm. Police located an unlocked door and a building clearing was performed. A key holder responded and determined that everything appeared to be ok. The building was secured and the alarm reset.
10:54 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a reported noise disturbance and upon arrival found no noise. Contact was made with an occupant of the apartment and advised of the complaint and advised that some friends had just left and they may have been the ones making the noise. A verbal warning was issued as this complaint was called in by a anonymous caller and no noise was detected upon arrival of the complaint.
October 4
1:48 a.m. - Intoxicated Person - Police responded to the area of the Old Railroad Station off Water Street and spoke with the Railroad concerning a subject found sleeping on the railroad tracks. There were no injuries and a partial description concerning this matter was obtained. The subject fled the area prior to the arrival of police and alcohol is believed to have been involved.
9:07 a.m. - Disorderly Conduct/ Noise - Police responded to an establishment on South Main Street for a report of a disorderly individual. Upon arrival, Police located the subject and spoke with her. Prior to Police arrival, she had calmed down and was no longer disorderly. A Washington County Mental Health Screener was contacted and they also responded to assist further. No further action was needed or taken by Police.
12:29 p.m. - Citizen Assist - Police met with a citizen in regards to a property dispute. It was advised that one of his snowmobiles was left at a property in Northfield Falls, and that the property owner would be upset when he went to retrieve it. Police made contact with the property owner, and arrangements were made for the snowmobile to be retrieved without incident.
October 5
2:50 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Michael Bell age 32 of Northfield was arrested for Domestic Assault. An officer was dispatched to a residence on Cemetery Street for the report of a physical fight. Upon arriving at the residence the officer spoke with the victim who advised she had been struck and strangled by Mr. Bell. Photographs of the victim's injuries were taken. Mr. Bell was located shortly thereafter and taken into
custody.
October 6
12:52 a.m. - Citizen Assist - An officer met with a person at the police department. The person expressed concerns about a divorce and the possibility that the other party was stalking them. We discussed a variety of ways to make sure that they were safe and put into place check points to monitor if the stalking was taking place. No further action at this time.
2:57 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of an animal problem on Water Street. Police were advised that a canine had bitten a young girl delivering papers. Police met with the involved parties and later determined that the canine had a valid rabies vaccination. The Town Health Officer was notified for further action.
