Northfield Selectboard Begins Process To Throw Up A Portion Of Robinson Road On Mill Hill Off Highway 64

By KATHLEEN LOTT The Northfield News

The Northfield Board of Selectmen voted Monday to begin the process to throw up part of Robinson Road on Mill Hill just off Route 64.

A written request to remove "the top portion of the road" from the residents of the road came before the board.

Joshua and Aja Jennings, "with the permission" of their neighbors David and Tracy DeFelice asked for the board's "consideration and approval to throw up a portion of our road," citing speeding issues, a break-in to their home and parking "at all hours" along the "upper portion of the road" that is "a secluded area from 64."

The board asked that Municipal Manager Nanci Allard arrange a site visit and prepare detailed information about the road.

Selectman Charles Morse said that the road was paved, but he, nor any of the other board members, knew if the road was a class 2 or class 3 road.

The board also passed an ordinance allowing all terrain vehicle (ATV) use along a limited stretch of Hallstrom Road "for approximately 2500 feet" to accommodate a handicapped resident. The ordinance requires that an ATV operator have a "letter from the selectboard "authorizing a person (sic) ATV use on this stretch of highway."

Selectman Kenneth Goslant said that the board was allowing ATV use for a "special need only" and "not for a recreational purpose"

Ms. Allard said that the ordinance would not go into effect for 60 days.

Mr. Morse reported to the board that Town charter committee was working on the "nitty gritty" of Town positions to be included in the charter. He said that the committee was considering replacing the listers with an assessor and whether or not some positions, such as fence viewer, were necessary.
