Morton Baker, 77, Korean War Vet
Morton C. Baker, 77, died Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was born in Northfield on November 1, 1931, the son of Clarence & Bertha (Cole) Baker. He attended Northfield Schools.
He is a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.
He married Velma Hebert in Northfield on April 23, 1952.
Mr. Baker had worked in the Northfield Asbestos Mill from 1954 to 1958 and the Town of Northfield from 1959, until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Northfield and the Sorrell Maynard American Legion Post 63 of Northfield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Baker of Northfield Falls; seven children, Donna Baker, Kim Sayers, Steven Baker, Todd Baker, Andrew Baker, all of Northfield, Wayne Baker of Missouri, Pamela Byrd of Kansas; four siblings, Douglas Baker of Florida, Leonard Baker of Waterbury, Joan Buck, Harold "Butch" Baker, both of Northfield; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by four brothers, Floyd, Duane, Herman, and Leonard.
There are no calling hours. A gathering celebrating his life will be held Wednesday, October 14 th from 4-8 p.m. at the American Legion on Depot Square in Northfield.
