NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

October 7

8 a.m. - Found Property - A village employee brought a bicycle to the police department that he had found while checking Memorial Park. There is no registration sticker on the bike. If you can describe the bike, please call Northfield Police Department to claim your property.

11:08 a.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to a two vehicle accident that occurred near the intersection of South Main Street and Park Ave. A vehicle that had stopped in traffic was rear ended by another vehicle while traveling north on South Main Street. There were no injuries and both parties have to file a state crash report due to the damages to both vehicle exceeding $1000.00.

12:27 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - An officer met with school personnel regarding a potential problem. Upon arrival I was informed of a conflict between two students that had the potential escalating to a crime. With the permission of the parents I met with both students at the school and conducted interviews. Both understood their responsibilities and the consequences of taking things into their own hands. No further action at this time.

6:51 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police consulted with a local merchant concerning a security matter and an employee. A plan of action was developed along with security checks being conducted over the night time hours.

October 8

1:38 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police took a complaint concerning a male who was cell texting and calling a female and would not stop when asked to stop by the female. Police made contact with the subject and advised him to stop calling.

7:18 a.m. - Animal Problem - The dispatcher received a call concerning a dog that had been staying around a house on Pleasant St. The officer was not available at the time of the call and the animal control officer was contacted by the dispatcher to pick up the dog. There were no tags and the caller did not recognize the dog. Baroffios lodged the dog.

12:52 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - A call from the Northfield High School regarding an incident that had been reported to them. I made contact with the parties concerned which were regarding threats. Interviews were conducted and the situation was resolved.

4:23 p.m. - Burglary - An officer was dispatched to Norwich University to a reported car break in. Upon arrival I made contact with the owner of the vehicle. The owner reported that person(s) unknown to him had entered his vehicle and removed property belonging to him. Investigation was initiated.

October 9

1:09 p.m. - Burglary - Police responded to Norwich University for a report of items stolen from a motor vehicle. The complainant advised that he left his vehicle unlocked and when he went to use the vehicle saw that items were missing from the vehicle. The cost to replace the items was estimated at $60.00. Please, if you are parking your vehicle even in your own driveway, make sure that it is locked to prevent any loss of property.

October 10

7:08 p.m. - Accident PD An officer responded to a residence on Stony Brook Road for the report of a hit and run accident. Upon my arrival I completed a Uniform Crash report. I also photographed the damage to the vehicle. The victim advised he was travelling west on Route 12A and was sideswiped by an oncoming car at the bridge just before the train underpass. The offending vehicle is green in color. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police department.

10:37 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a reported noise disturbance on Vine Street. Police met with the complainant and then spoke with the person who lived at the residence making the noise. The resident was advised of the noise ordinance and requested to have her guest be quiet. No further complaints.

11:10 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - While patrolling Vine Street an officer observed several vehicles parked in a parking lot. The officer spoke with the people in the vehicles and identified one as being under age and having had consumed alcohol. He was issued a referral to the Washington County Teen Alcohol Safety Program.

October 11

Noon - Agency Assistance - Police were advised of a littering complaint on Chandler Road. An officer on patrol was flagged down by a Berlin resident, who advised they found trash on their property. Northfield Police gathered the initial information about the complainant and forwarded it to the Berlin Police Department for further investigation and action.

9:09 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to Vermont Route 12 in Berlin to assist a Berlin Officer who was attempting to apprehend two female runaway juveniles. Upon my arrival the officer had caught up with the second female. One of the juveniles had cut herself. I followed the Berlin Officer to the hospital in case he had any further issues with the juveniles.

10:03 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer was dispatched to School Street for the report of suspicious activity. The complainant advised her ex-husband was harassing her. Upon my arrival the subject was gone. The officer later issued him a notice against trespass for her residence.

11:46 p.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - An officer stopped a vehicle on North Main Street. While speaking with the operator, the officer observed some drug paraphernalia. The officer asked for and was granted consent to search the vehicle. During the subsequent investigation a small amount of marijuana was located. The officer also searched the vehicle owners residence as well, and no further contraband was located. Charges are pending further investigation.

October 12

1:52 p.m. - Accident PD - Police responded to VT RT 12A for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, Police determined that a vehicle was towing a boat, and when the trailer dislodged from the trailer hitch, it struck the rear of the vehicle. No injuries were reported, and the vehicle sustained moderate damage to the rear bumper, and rear hatch. Police completed a crash report for the operator.

2:12 p.m. - Burglary - Police responded to Cox Brook Road for a report of a burglary. Upon arrival, Police met with the residents and gathered information about the incident. A ring and money were taken. An investigation is underway, and Police canvassed the area and spoke with several residents about their observations of the area. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Police Department; 802- 485-9181.

5:35 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police Department received a report of a vandalism on Lovers Lane. Police learned that a power meter had been vandalized and that power had been shut off to a residence. It was found that a clip was taken off of the meter, and the emergency disconnect had been triggered, causing the power loss. There was very minimal damage reported. Police responded and canvassed the area for anything suspicious.

October 13

12:52 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police responded to a VT RT 12N residence for a report of a vandalism. Police determined that a trespassing vehicle had 'torn up' a field at the residence. The vehicle was found on the Norwich University campus, and the owner was identified. Arrangements to repair the damages were made between the operator of the vehicle and the property owner, in lieu of any further enforcement action.

2:02 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - The complainant entered the police station requesting to talk with an officer. I talked with the complainant who advised me that he suspected a couple of people had entered his vehicle and pushed it to the middle of the parking lot on Vine street. That he also found a large amount of snow in his front seats. I talked with one of the parties who was suspected and found that he had no involvement. No damage was found.

5:15 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer responded to a residence on Vermont Route 12A. Upon arrival I met with the complainant who advised she was having trouble with a friend who continually came over un-invited and removed property from the residence without permission. The complainant requested a Notice Against Trespass be served on him. The notice was served.
