Williamstown freshman mid fielder does a balancing act with the ball against United Christian Academy (UCA) in the game at Williamstown last Saturday. The Lady Blue Devils picked up their ninth win of the season with the 4-0 shutout of UCA. The Blue Devil Girl's soccer team picked up a trio of victories last week. On Wednesday the Williamstown ladies beat Twinfield 2-1 at home.

On Friday they traveled to Concord and topped the Wildcats 1-0 in overtime. Then back home on Saturday, they dismantled United Christian Academy (UCA), of Newport, 4- 0. With the three wins the Blue Devil Girls improved their record to 9-2. The Ladies of the Blue and White will close out the regular season when they host Cannan this Friday in a 2 p.m. match.

On Saturday, against UCA, Williamstown came right and dominated things from the start. The ball seldom made it's way over the mid-field line and into the Blue Devil end, And when it did it rarely made it past the top of the penalty box. At the UCA end of the field things were dramatically different. The Blue Devil's pu tthe pressure on early and often and tallied their first marker at the eight minute mark when Erika Gauthier scored off a corner kick. Erika fielded the ball cleanly and launched a rocket off her right foot from 18 yards out to make it 1-0, Williamstown. In the game's 15th minute Lourdes (Lulu) Perry notched the first two goals of the afternoon when she took the feed from Kristin Brown over on the left sideline about 25 yards out and used her elegant ball control style to work her way past two defenders to the center of the field about 10 yards out. She then blasted home a pretty pivot kick to make it 2-0, 'Devils. Williamstown held that 2-0 lead going into the intermission. The Blue and White Girls added two more in the second half.

Eleven minutes into the second half Lulu struck again. This time she once again used her patented moves to work out in front and beat the UCA keeper to the short side to make it a 3- 0 Williamstown lead. The Blue devils capped the scoring in the game's 66th minute. Center back Heather Gonier struck a beautiful long through ball to Kristin Brown and "KB" did the rest. She ripped the ball into the right side of the UCA net down low from six yards out making it a 4-0 Blue Devil lead and it was all downhill from there.

"I am most happy with the entire team's performance. We got stronger and stronger as the game went on. It was really satisfying ,as a coach, to see the team put all the pieces together. And we did it at times with five freshmen on the field," said Williamstown coach Jay Villa.

At Concord on Friday things weren't quite so easy. The Blue Devil Girl's had to go into overtime before coming away with a 1-0 victory on the strength of a Janra Bresett "Golden Goal" five minutes into the extra stanza. The goal was set up by two familiar names. "Lulu" Perry threaded her way diagonally across the field through seven players and blasted a shot that Concord Keeper, Brianna Simpson, blocked away and over the end-line setting up the corner kick. Kristin Brown placed the corner kick perfectly out in front of the Wildcat goal and Janra Bresett headed the ball into the far top corner of the net to give the 'Devils the victory.

This was a hard fought win. "Concord worked very, very hard," said coach Villa. " They challenged for every ball but our kids didn't back down. They made me proud. Instead of reacting to Concord's rough play they concentrated on the game."

Williamstown had plenty of chances to put things away in regulation time. Kristin Brown hit the post and the crossbar in the first half and then just to even things out she hit the other post in the second half.

"Their goalkeeper, Brianna Simpson, was wonderful. She made two point blank saves on shots from 'Lulu 'and robbed Erika Gauthier as well for three of the 13 saves," said coach Villa. Everybody got into the act in the tough win. "This was a total team win, all 13 players saw time on the field," the coach added.

Against Twinfield on Wednesday Kristin Brown was moved to an attacking position and the move paid off for the Blue Devil's. Kristin scored both of the Williamstown goals in the 2-1 win over the Ladies of Troy.

Kristin struck first in the game's 22nd minute when she took a nice give and go feed from "Lulu" Perry and used her left foot to blast a shot that found the net down low near the far post to put the Lady Devils up1- 0.

In the second half Kristin struck again. Eleven minutes into the second stanza Williamstown was awarded an indirect kick just outside the penalty box. (An indirect kick cannot be booted directly into the goal.

It must touch another player before a goal can be recorded.) Caitlin Orton, one of the nine freshmen on the Williamstown roster, approached the ball and just made a touch with her foot. Kristin brown followed right behind her and popped the ball over the wall of players out in front and into the far corner of the net for what proved to be the game's winning goal.

The 2-0 'Devils lead didn't last long. Just five minutes later Twinfield scored and things tightened up. " Much of the second half was played at midfield but after they scored Twinfield really started to play for the tie. But our defense, especially Heather Gonier and Sarah Bailey our captain, was amazing. They were outstanding in the last 19 minute of the game," said coach Villa. The defense held Twinfield scoreless and the final score was Williamstown 2 Twinfield 1. With the three wins last week the Lady Blue Devil's record improved to 9-2. The Williamstown Girls will host Cannan this Friday in a 2 p.m. game that will close out the regular season and then await the playoff picks.
