Endless Spring Comes To Roxbury

The Northfield News

On a glorious evening in late July, the five members of Roxbury's "Endless Spring" a cappella chorus gathered at the Hancock, VT. graveside of Jeremiah Ingalls (1764-1838), one of the most prominent of all New England shape-note composers.

In that historic and pastoral setting, surrounded by the hallowed hills which his songs memorialized along with "growing fields of corn" and "meadows dress'd in green", the group joyfully sang Ingalls' songs, and felt a stirring, transcendental sense of connection to the region's musical roots.

On Sunday, November 1 at 3 p.m., Endless Spring will share Ingalls' music with the wider community at the Roxbury Church, along with music of William Billings, Don Jamieson, Virgil Thompson, William Byrd, Scarlatti and others.

The concert will be free, and everyone is welcome.
