NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT
October 14
3:14 p.m. - Parking Problem - Police ticked two vehicles and towed one vehicle that was blocking the access to a fire hydrant on Central street. It is illegal to block fire hydrants and any vehicle located in front of one will be ticketed and towed at the owners expense.
October 15
11:02 p.m. - Custodial Interference - Police responded to the Northfield Elementary School for a heated custodial disturbance. The biological dad went to the Elementary School to visit his daughter. The school officials contacted the custodial parent who with her new husband went to the school where an intense verbal argument broke out. Police removed all parties involved from the school property and sorted out problem.
2:!8 p.m. - Animal Problem - A citizen of VT RT 12a reported that a dog had been wandering around his residence. The tags on the dog helped to find the owners and the two were eventually reunited.
3:38 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police received a complaint of neighbors not getting along. The complainant advised that the other party came out and verbally accosted her after her younger daughter stated that she had been sent home. The complainant wanted this female to stop with the verbal attacks seeing as how she had no involvement with the child being sent home. The officer spoke with all parties and advised options to solve differences.
3:54 p.m. - Citizen Assist - An officer was called by a citizen requesting assistance with a situation. The officer was advised that an incident took place where an adult male took pictures of two girls and uploaded them to utube. He was further advised that the individual who did this was a sex offender. The two girls came to my office and told the officer more about the incident and he made contact with the male and conducted an interview with him. No further action.
4:26 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police responded to North Main Street for a report of a juvenile problem. The juvenile did not want to go with his father on dads day as ordered in the court order. Mom was trying to get him to go but he refused. Police helped expedite the juvenile out the door to go with his father. No further action taken.
8:07 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police assisted a resident of an apartment complex. The resident was having problems with a neighbor who was being disrespectful to her and her husband. This concerned living noises the resident could hear coming from her apartment. The landlord was contacted by the resident who stated that he would contact the resident.
October 16
10:13 a.m. - MV Complaint - Police received a complaint of a black Jeep Wrangler passing a school bus that was loading passengers and display its stop sign and red flashing lights. The incident occurred on Cox Brook road and was witnessed by multiple operators. The male juvenile received two Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for Passing the school bus and for passenger restrictions with an junior operators license.
11:51 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to Rte. 64 just above the truck runaway ramp for a report of two dogs running in the roadway. The complainant had already captured one of the dogs and the second one was located nearby by the police. The owner was located. The Northfield animal ordinance was explained to him. A warning was given.
10:31 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to Norwich University, parking lot C concerning a student's vehicle that had been vandalized sometime after Thursday-10-15-09. The vehicle described as a Jeep soft top had the drivers side plastic window slashed and that the locked glove compartment and other secured compartment had been open.
11:44 p.m. - Alcohol Offense - Police stopped a motor vehicle on Park Ave in Northfield for defective equipment. It was determined that that the passenger and operator has been consuming alcohol and both were under 21. The operator had a BAC of .057% and the passenger .125%. Both received teen alcohol safety paperwork and the driver also received a ticket for person's under 21 with an alcohol concentration of .02% or more.
October 17
7 p.m. - Theft - An officer responded to a residence on Doyon Road for the report of a theft. The officer collected statements and conducted a preliminary interview of one suspect. The officer will be arranging a follow-up interview once more specific information in collected regarding the missing property.
October 18
11:14 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer responded to a residence at Dog Wood Glen for the report of a citizen's dispute. Upon arrival the officer spoke with the parties involved who advised they had a verbal disagreement. The officer separated the individuals for the night.
October 19
9:30 a.m. - Found Property - Police received a bicycle that was found in the parking lot on Plaza Drive. The bicycle, which does not bear a Police Dept. bicycle registration sticker, is a purple mountain bicycle with grip shifters. This bicycle does not appear to be reported as missing or stolen to the Police Department at this time. If you are missing your bicycle, please contact the Northfield Police Department; 802-485-9181.
10:33 a.m. - Citizen Assist - An officer received a request for assistance. The elderly person requested assistance due to a problem with her grandson (age 30). She told me that she was afraid to live in the same house has her grandson. The officer made several phone calls for her and was able to have a housing application sent to her son's house. The officer later met with her grandson and talked to him about the situation. He advised me that he would be moving out within 30 days.
3:18 p.m. - Theft - Police responded to Harmon Drive for a report of a theft complaint. Upon arrival, Police met with the victim and found that $70 was missing from her purse. Police retrieved a sworn statement from the victim, and gathered further information about the incident.
3:38 p.m. - MV Complaint - Police responded to Byam Hill Road for a report of a motor vehicle complaint. A resident reported that two unregistered motorcycles were being operated on the roadway. Due to handling a call for service, Police were not able to respond immediately. Upon arrival, a short time later, Police were unable to locate the motorcycles in the immediate or surrounding areas.
5:39 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - Police received a report of a juvenile problem on Carpenter Street. Upon arrival, Police met with the parties involved, and helped to defuse and mediate the situation. The juvenile was left in the care and custody of her family for the evening. No further police action was taken or needed.
7:30 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A resident of West Hill Road called to report hearing footsteps on her porch, and her dogs "going crazy". The complainant advised she did not see anyone, or hear anything else. She further advised a friends stopped in shorty there after who also did not see anything suspicious.
October 20
7:27 a.m. - MV Complaint -Police were advised of a motor vehicle complaint on Whetstone Drive. The caller reported that a vehicle had been 'blowing donuts' in the parking and crashed sometime overnight. Furthermore, the operator left the vehicle at the scene. Police responded to the scene, and through registration documents were able to identify the owner. Police are investigating the incident further.
11:02 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to a residence on VT RT 12S for a report of an animal problem. Upon arrival, Police could not detect any animal noise. Police stood-by in the area, and could not detect any noise over a continued period of time. Police did speak with the animal owner to advise him of the complaint however. No further enforcement action was taken.
7:03 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A resident of Stony Brook Road came to the police station to report being a victim of identity theft. The officer was able to run a credit check with the complainant and thus far was unable to locate fraud activity. The officer provided the citizen with a brochure containing other resources for victims of ID theft. The officer will also speak with the citizen later in the week, after he confirm his suspicions.
