NU Women's Rugby Team Slaughters Bryant Bulldogs
Norwich wing Alicia Seda advances the ball despite heavy pressure from Bryant College defenders in last Saturday's 36-0 Cadet win in the New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU) quarterfinal. Despite the Rain and the slippery conditions the Norwich women had little trouble with the Bulldogs and advanced to the NERFU semifinal in Bangor Maine, this weekend. The rain and mud made the ball difficult to handle, but it didn't slow down the Norwich University women's rugby team, who spent the afternoon attacking the Bryant Bulldogs in the New England Rugby Football Union quarter-final match-up. The Cadets led 26-0 at the half, and they ran in two more in the second half en route to a 36-0 victory.
Senior center Clarissa Wynn opened scoring for the Cadets. She went on to score two more tries in the match and convert 3-of-6 kicks, for a game-high 21 points. Sophomore flanker Hannah Bushey and junior wing Unna Lee each notched a try as well. Sophomore hooker Marlene Dwyer scored her first career try for the Maroon & Gold.
"Overall a decent performance, given the conditions and the intensity of our opposition," said NU head coach Austin Hall. "Bryant presented some unique challenges for us and we responded quickly, which really makes a coach happy. We stayed true to our mantra of total team play and we came away with a favorable result. We'll get back to work this week as we prepare for the NERFU semifinals."
