NORTHFIELD POLICE REPORT

October 21

3:34 p.m. - Citizen Assist

Police were request to respond to a local business and notify an employee to contact a mental health professional concerning a significant other who may have been having a mental health crisis. Police responded to the business and were unable to locate the employee requested. The metal health professional was advised of the situation and other arrangements were made.

October 22

11:03 a.m. - Citizen Dispute

Police received a complaint of a Truck Driver mouthing off to one of the traffic control officers in the construction zone. Words were exchanged and the incident was witnessed by the truck driver's supervisor. The supervisor stated that he will be dealt with on Thursday when she sees him at work.

11:30 a.m. - MV Complaint

Police received a complaint of a maroon truck running several stop signs and failing to stop for traffic control officers on Pearl Street and Union Street. Police will be stepping up patrols in these areas and will be issuing Vermont Civil Violation Complaints and criminal citations for any observed violation in and around the construction zones.

October 23

8 a.m. - Traffic Hazard

Police recieved complaints about the Norwich Cadets out running in the roadways early in the morning. The complaints were that they took up the entire roadway forcing traffic to stop and that it was still pitch black and that no one was wearing any reflective vest. Norwich University Officials were contacted about the issue and they were reminded to advise the cadets not to run more than two abreast.

4:18 p.m. - Accident PD

Police responded to a motor vehicle verses bicycle accident on Rte. 12 North in Northfield Falls. The young male riding north on Rte. 12 North, attempted to cross both lanes without looking and struck a motor vehicle that was also traveling north. The young male was shaken up in the accident but did not receive any serious injuries due to the motorist slowing down prior to the accident.

4:45 p.m. - Animal Problem

Outside an officer's home he could hear a woman screaming and a man yelling. he contacted the on duty officer, but he was tied up on an accident. He responded to the area where the screaming was coming from and found that three dogs (two pit bulls and a St. Bernard had been in a fight. The women wanted the two pit bulls gone from her property. They were owned by her adult son. After several minutes the argument ended and the dogs were removed

6:36 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police were advised of an Abuse Prevention Violation on a Final Order that had been issued in Washington Family Court. Aaron Fifield, Age 29 of Northfield was cited to appear in Washington District Court to answer to the charge of Violating an Abuse Prevention Order. Fifield violated the order by "Texting" the plaintiff and was not authorized to do so in this matter, as no contact was ordered by the court.

October 24

12:43 a.m. - Accident PD

Police, Fire and rescue responded to a single vehicle roll-over on Vermont Route 12A in Northfield. Upon arrival police determined that the lone, young, male operator had escaped serious injury as he had been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The vehicle, a 2006, Chevy, HHR was totaled as a result of rolling over several time before coming to final rest in the traveled portion of the highway.

1:43 p.m. - Wanted Person

Police arrested an East Street resident who was on escape status and also had an outstanding arrest warrant, both from the Vermont Department of Corrections. The individual was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Barre City Police Department. The individual was lodged pending transport to a correctional facility by the Vermont Department of Corrections.

7:48 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - A resident of Dogwood Glen called to reprot having received a threatening message on her phone. The officer will listen to the message and speak with the caller about appropriate phone etiquette and the consequences of disturbing the peace by phone.

7:57 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to School Street for a report of a suspicious complaint. Police were advised that an unwanted individual was reportedly seen in the area. Police canvassed the area but were unable to locate the subject. Police met with the complainant and advised the same.

8:06 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A report was taken of suspicious activity. Officers arrived to find a vehicle parked near the complainant's home. While speaking with a man, 33, of Middlesex, it was determined that he was intoxicated and had driven to this residence. He had a roadside BAC of .183%. He was transported to the Northfield Police Department for processing. He was issued a citation to appear in November to answer the charge of DUI #3.

11:14 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complaint which turned out to be a small group of people watching a Hockey Game on TV. The resident was advised to keep his guests quiet and was issued a

written warning for a noise violation. There were no further complaints.

October 25

12:14 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complaint at 103 Slate Ave. Upon arrival of the police the party was in the process of breaking up. The resident responsible for the party was identified and a written warning was issued for the noise violation. There were no further complaints and police waited until the area was clear of people.

3:40 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Pleasant Street after receiving a suspicious phone call. The caller advised

that someone had been slapped and then hung up. Upon arrival, Police found that no assault had taken place, and that an elderly resident was suffering from a medical condition which attributed to the call.

8:30 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - An officer responded to a residence on Water Street for the report of a disturbance call. The complainant advised she could hear yelling and screaming and things being broken in the apartment. Upon arrival most of the people had left the apartment. The officer spoke with a tenant who advised he did not know what had happened.

9:16 p.m. - Threatening

An officer spoke with a resident of North Main Street regarding an harassing phone calls complaint. The officer will speak with the other party and caution them about appropriate phone etiquette, and the consequences of disturbing the peace by phone.

October 26

9:46 a.m. - Child Abuse or Neglect - Police was notified of possible child abuse stemming from a complaint by a physician via the Vermont Department of Children and Families. In cooperation with the Vermont Department of Children and Families, an investigation was started.

4:08 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer was visited by the complainant and her parents at the Police Station. They advised me that there was a 40 year old man who had been text messaging their daughter. Further, the man has been seen hanging around the outside of their home. I made contact with the male and made it very clear that if he continued with this type of behavior, that criminal charges would be filed against him. He assured me that he would not go near her.

October 27

6:15 a.m. - MV Complaint

An officer responded to the report of a vehicle off of the roadway on Route 64, at the intersection of VT Route 12. The officer located the vehicle which was towed out of the ditch. The operator was uninjured. The officer completed a state of Vermont Uniform Crash Report. The operator advised he had fallen asleep and drifted off of the roadway.

1:25 p.m. - Theft - The department received a report from a student that lived on Central Street that he was missing an item from the communal closet of the residence. An investigation is underway.

9:47 p.m. - MV Complaint

An officer responded to a residence on Traverse Street for the report that a vehicle was parked in a private driveway. The owner of the vehicle was located and he moved the vehicle.
