Elementary School Kids Learn About Drugs During 'Red Ribbon Week'

The Northfield News

Northfield Elementary School wrapped up its Red Ribbon Week by presenting various video clips made by students and School Counselor Heather Scandale.

Mrs. Scandale had worked with several classes on creating video public service announcements that encompassed learning about drugs and how they affect us, our families, and our communities.

Throughout Red Ribbon Week students participated in a variety of activities.

The students shared their "natural highs", such as skateboarding, playing music, and being involved in extracurricular activities.

Students identified and shared a variety of refusal skills they could use if placed in a situation of being offered cigarettes or alcohol or other drugs.

They had a day of wearing red to school and having lunch be the color of red; pasta with red sauce and red fruits.

At the end of school-wide morning meeting, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) from the high school handed out Red Ribbons and pencils to the students. Red Ribbon Week also honors those who fight the war against illegal drugs in our country.
