Northfield Police Report

November 4, 2009

737 a.m. - Burglary - An officer was dispatched to a reported burglary of a residence. The officer was advised that nothing was taken. Upon arrival I learned that two guns were missing from the residence. It appeared the the complainant had left his front door unlocked. Investigation initiated.

1:30 p.m. - Theft - An officer responded to a dormitory for the report of a three stolen laptop computers. The officer gathered the pertinent information and will be adding it to NCIC, the national crime database.

November 5, 2009

10:21 a.m. - Burglary - A tenant on Pleasant street called the police to report that he had just interrupted a burglary in progress. The two males were in his home when he came down the stairs. He called the department while the two males were leaving the apartment. Under investigation.

3:59 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer was dispatched to Water Street to a reported dispute between neighbors. Upon my arrival I talked with the complainant. She advised me that her son had been attacked by another boy in the neighborhood. Investigation revealed that both boys (age 11) were equally responsible for the dispute. After a long talk both shook hands and vowed not to hit each other.

5:45 p.m. - Animal Problem - An officer received a complaint regarding a loose dog. The unleashed dog was not located when the officer drove down Central Street.

8:59 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Police were called to a residence in reference to a family Disturbance. The disturbance was over once police arrived and involved traditional parent/child behavior that had just got out of hand. Police spoke to all the parties involved and provided support and guidance on how to prevent future situations from escalating in the future.

November 6, 2009

1:40 a.m. - Foot Patrol - Police conducted a patrol of this

business area on foot.

11:48 a.m. - Trespassing - An officer responded to Norwich University to serve a former student with a Notice Against Trespass. The notice was served without incident.

1:27 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A woman came to the police station to advise her ex-boyfriend had stolen a number of DVD movies from her residence and had sold them to a local video store. The complainant advised she had recovered a number of the movies from the store. The officer has spoken with the parties involved.

2 p.m. - Found Property - Police were notified by a citizen of Loop Road that he had found a bicycle on his property. The citizen was contacting the department to see if anyone had reported a lost or stolen bicycle. If anyone is missing a purple bike, please call the Northfield Police Department to identify the property.

2:54 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - The department was advised by a village employee that there was damaged at the Memorial Park. The hill side to the pool had numerous tire tracks. A vehicle had been seen earlier in the day parked in beside the pump house. The officer was given the description of the vehicle.

6:04 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police took a report on a suspiciousvehicle that had been parked on private property for about two weeks. The property owner was advised that law enforcement would come over and check out the vehicle to insure it was not stolen and attempt to locate the owner and have the vehicle removed.

8:39 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police were requested to meet with a subject on Lovers Lane in Northfield in reference to a vehicle damaged by a pumpkin. Police responded and could not find the complainant. Contact was made by cell phone with the complainant who gave his location which turned out to be in the Town of Berlin. Northfield Police did meet with the complainant to insure that this matter did not occur within the Town of Northfield.

10:01 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to an adjoining apartment due to some sort of alarm going off in the other apartment. Police responded and determined that the alarm that had been going off was a smoke detector and that the cause of the alarm was due to burnt toast.

11:44 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to a report of a prowler around a residence. Police met with the complainant who advised that she could hear noises on the property and that she was concerned. Police checked the area and adjoining property and continued to check the area over the night time hours.

November 7, 2009

12:33 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complaint and found a small party that was in the process of breaking up with

guests leaving. The host of the party who was also the resident was identified and issued a written warning in violation of the Town of Northfield Noise Ordinance. there were no further complaints.

11:50 a.m. - Parking Problem - Police responded to Dogwood Glen for a report of a parking problem. The caller reported that a pick up truck was parked in a handicapped parking spot, and there were no placards on the vehicle to indicate that the vehicle had the privilege to park there. Upon Police arrival, the vehicle was gone. Police met with the complainant who advised that the vehicle had left just minutes prior.

November 8, 2009

5:51 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer responded to a residence on Dickinson Drive for the report of a suspicious person looking through the window of a residence. The officer canvassed the area and was unable to locate any suspicious people. The officer spoke with several pedestrians and neighbors. None reported seeing anything out of the ordinary.

November 9, 2009

3:20 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Police received a complaint of damage to a mailbox on West Hill Road. The complainant advised that when she went out to get her mail that the mail box was a little banged up. Police investigated and found no other banged up mail boxes on West Hill road. The estimated damage to the mail box was approximately $30.00.

5:13 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A citizen requested that the department patrol the pull off area on Garvey Hill. A vehicle is frequently parked and the caller nor his neighbors know why the vehicle would be there. The officer will try be in the area at the time of day most frequently parked and identify the operator.

November 10, 2009

1:20 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance -An officer responded to a local convenience store on North Main Street for the report of a suspicious item. The officer took possession of a small sandwich bag containing a green leafy material the officer identified as marijuana. The material was secured in evidence until it can be destroyed.

3:28 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Vermont Route 64 for a report of a suspicious motor vehicle. A passerby reported that a female operator seated inside a blue sedan was witnessed to be slumped over the steering wheel. Police and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, it was found that the female operator

was merely making a telephone call, and was not in need of emergency services.
