Northfield Police Report
November 18
2:42 p.m. - MV Complaint
Police received a complaint of a vehicle driving erratically on Rte. 12 A. Police did not get a good description of the vehicle and were unable to locate it.
2:45 p.m. - MV Complaint
Police received a complaint of a little car driving erratically on Water Street and Wall Street. Police will be stepping up enforcement and issuing Vermont Civil Violation Complaints for all driving violations observed.
2:48 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer received a call from the complainant reporting that person(s) unknown to her had slashed two tires on her vehicle. The vehicle was parked near Pearl Street and the damage is estimated at $185.00. Anyone with information is encourage to call the police department
3:07 p.m. - Animal Noise
Police received a complaint of dog barking and disturbing their neighbors on Byam Hill Road. The complainant stated that the dogs are keeping him awake during the day and that he would like the neighbors to keep them inside. Police will be speaking with the owners of the dogs.
8:02 p.m. - Animal Problem
Police responded to a complaint concerning a neighbors dog running at large and chasing the complainant into her house. Police spoke to both parties involved and concluded that the dog was under the owners control who was outside at the time and the dog came back onto its property when told to do so by its master.
November 19
9:38 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to the Northfield High School to perform an Alco check on a student. The student blew zeros and no further action was taken.
3:30 p.m. - Traffic Hazard
The department was advised that there seemed to be a traffic hazard on Cemetary Street. The street is one way and vehicles were being routed on the street going the wrong way. The traffic direction was being interrupted temporarily because of the resurfacing that was being done around the school area of Cemetery, Garvey Hill and Cross Street.
6:49 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police responded to Champlain Farms located on North Main Street for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that all the lights were off and that there were a group of people outside who looked sketchy. Police responded and it was determined that the business was temporally closed in order to wax the floors of the business.
10:56 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complaint. The tenants of the apartment responsible for the noise were identified and issued a written warning for a violation of the Northfield Noise Ordinance. The tenants were having a small party and were advised to please be quiet and considerate to their neighbors. There were no further complaints.
November 20
2:24 p.m. - Theft - Police received a complaint of property being stolen from a hunting camp off of Union Brook Road. The complainant advised that when he left last week he failed to lock up the shed and some one came in and stole his 50 series Husqvarna chain saw and a Little Buddy heater. The complainant advised that it occurred between Wednesday and today.
7:49 p.m. - Accident PD
Police were advised by the owner of a vehicle that while it was parked on South Main Street by St. Mary's Church a vehicle clipped his drivers side mirror. Investigations shows that only the mirror was damaged indicating a passing vehicle clipped the mirror. Anyone with information concerning this matter is asked to contact police. This happened sometime between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
7:50 p.m. - Found Property
A concerned citizen contacted Northfield Police in person and released custody of a cloth brief case with contents that was found unattended in the area of the common by the cement wall. The owner of the property was located. The property owner will make arraignments to have the property sent to him out of state.
November 21
7:52 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of an animal problem on Winch Hill Road. The caller reported that he had been followed by a dog that was barking incessantly at him. The caller was concerned about the actions of the canine and notified Police. The animal control officer was contacted, and he responded to the scene to take further appropriate action.
12:11 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police responded to a residence on Kent Street in reference to a citizen dispute. Upon arrival the officers were advised by the complainant that she was having a dispute with a family member regarding a piece of property. Complainant showed the officers a court order granting her possession of the property. Officers made contact with the other party, retrieved the property and returned it back to the complainant.
8:29 p.m. - Custodial Dispute - Police were advised of a Child Custody/Visitation dispute. Police spoke to both parties concerning the visitation matter and the parties were able to come to an agreeable resolution to the problem.
November 22
8:56 p.m. - Intoxicated Person - An officer responded to South Main Street for a male who was lying in the road. Upon arrival the officer determined the male was incapacitated, and took him into protective custody. He was transported to Central Vermont Hospital, where he was treated and released to his parents. Simple assault charges are pending a continued investigation into allegations he assaulted a passenger in the vehicle he was riding in.
November 23
10:23 a.m. - Theft - A citizen reported to the Northfield Police Dept. that someone had stolen a piece of property from his yard. The theft occurred at his residence on Stoney Brook Road. The information was obtained and a police report was taken.
Investigation continues.
11:24 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to Interstate 89 to assist a Vermont State Trooper with an arrest. The trooper had conducted traffic stop and the operator of the vehicle was determined to have a criminally suspended license. The Trooper also conducted a DUI investigation. The officer provided assistance to the Trooper and then returned to normal duties.
November 24
8:20 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police responded to Burnham Drive to assist an outside agency. Police were requested to do a check upon a Burnham Drive resident. Police responded and attempted to locate the individual, but was not home at the time.
8:33 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of a suspicious individual on Union Brook Road. The complainant advised that a male walking down the roadway appeared to be hunched over, as if he was injured. The male was also reportedly hitch-hiking. Police responded and canvassed the area. The male was not able to be located in the immediate or surrounding area.
10:54 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a report of suspicious activity from a K-T Drive resident. The resident reported witnessing suspicious activity overnight. Police took the information, and will observe the area for any other activity.
5:11 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police received a report of an animal problem on Union Brook Road. A passerby reported that a canine would routinely run into the roadway, and was concerned that the canine would be hit by a passing motor vehicle. Police will follow-up with the owner of the canine, and inform them of the animal control ordinance.
8:36 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - An officer met with a resident of Northfield at the police station. The resident wanted to report receiving harassing and unwanted phone calls from family members. The officer called and spoke with the other parties regarding the complaint. The subject advised the calls would stop.
