Richard A. Greenslit, 74, Was With Rock of Ages

Richard A. Greenslit, 74, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at his home on Kirkpatrick Lane, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Northfield on February 14, 1935, the son of Ivan & Mildred (Thompson) Greenslit. He is a graduate of Northfield High School.

He married Priscilla C. Parker in Northfield Falls on September 3, 1954. They lived their entire married lives in Northfield Falls.

Richard was an active member of the Vermont Army National Guard retiring after over 33 years of service at the rank of first sergeant.

He worked for Rock of Ages in Barre for over forty five years.

He was a member of the Northfield Falls Methodist Church, Dewitt Clinton Masonic Lodge in Northfield, former member of the Jaycees and scouts. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of over 55 years, Priscilla “Peggy” Greenslit of Northfield Falls; five children, Richard Ivan Greenslit of Northfield Falls, Georgianna “Lea” Hatch, of Northfield, Terry Lynn Greenslit of Ohio, Penny Marie Baroffio of Northfield, Patricia Jean Guerrera of Fairfield; five siblings, Hazel Gordon of West Berlin, Kenneth Greenslit of Northfield Falls, Barbara Benoir of Braintree, Marie Clough of Northfield, Raymond Greenslit of Missouri; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren: and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother, Everett H. Greenslit.

Calling hours will be held Friday, December 11th from 1 p.m. until the start of the service at 2 p.m. at the Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Avenue in Northfield. Military honors will be accorded following the service. Donations may be made in his memory to the Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Berlin, VT 05641.

...And I strongly suspect we're related. My Mother was a Greenslit from Barre, but I never had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman or his family. My condolences to them all.

I expect that my dad knew him
