Cadets Roll Over Southern New Hampshire 12 - 0

The 8-0-1 ice Cadets are now on a break that will last until New Year’s Day when they host undefeated Curry.
Emmond Bell, Kyle Thomas and Steven Schroeder each netted two goals apiece, and six other Cadets tallied goals as the No. 3-ranked Norwich University men’s ice hockey team ran over Southern New Hampshire University, 12-0, in a non-conference contest Friday evening at Kreitzberg Arena.
The victory is the 300th for Norwich head coach Mike McShane at the school.
Norwich (7-0-1) drew a penalty just 31 seconds into the first period, and the Cadets capitalized just seven seconds later when Bell scored a power play goal off assists from junior F Chad Anderson and junior D Greg Eskedjian.
The Cadets extended their lead to 2-0 at 7:33 of the first period when Thomas scored off a pass from freshman F Eric Siegel. NU made it 3-0 late in the first period when Eskedjian netted an unassisted goal at the 17:21 mark.
Norwich outshot Southern New Hampshire, 19-2, in the opening 20 minutes.
The Cadets exploded offensively in the second period, scoring six times in the frame. Once again, Norwich opened the scoring in the first minute of the stanza as Schroeder scored off an assist from freshman F Matt McCann just 35 seconds into the period. Schroeder struck again at the 10:33 mark, scoring his second of the period off another pass from McCann.
Freshman F Colin Mulvey put the Cadets on top 6-0 at 11:47 of the second period when he scored a power play goal following a nice pass from senior F D.J. Fimiani. Thomas netted his second goal of the game at the 17:14 mark when he received a feed from Craig Carbonneau and beat SNHU G Shane Brooks. Bell tallied his second goal of the game 46 seconds later off assists from freshman F Blake Forkey and senior D Steve Coon. Fimiani capped the high-scoring period at the 19:45 mark, when he scored off assists from Thomas and senior F Craig Serino.
The Cadets enjoyed a 20-6 edge in shots during a highlyentertaining second period.
For the third straight period, Norwich scored in the opening minute as freshman F Pier-Oliver Cotnoir potted his second marker of the season off assists from Schroeder and McCann just 38 seconds into the frame. Anderson made it 11-0 in favor of the Cadets less than three minutes later when he netted his fifth goal of the year off a pass from Bell. Senior F Eric Tallent capped the scoring at the 8:15 mark when he scored an unassisted goal. The play had to be reviewed by the goal judge, and it was determined that the puck had crossed the line.
Norwich freshman G Alex Dubois (1-0-0) made 11 saves to earn his first career shutout in his first career start. Brooks made 27 saves before exiting after allowing his eighth goal. Mike Mastracci came on to play the final 22:10 and made 10 saves, while allowing four goals.
For the game, the Cadets outshot the Penmen 49-11. Norwich went 2-for-3 on the power play, while Southern New Hampshire was 0-for-3 with the manadvantage.
Norwich will return to action the weekend of Jan. 1-2, when the Cadets host the Times Argus Invitational at Kreitzberg Arena. Potsdam and New England College will square off in the first semifinal contest on Friday, Jan. 1, at 4 p.m., with Norwich and Curry set to play in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. The thirdplace game and the championship game will be played on Saturday, Jan. 2, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
