Norwich Men Fall To Lasell 87-71
Sophomore F Antonio Davis matched his career-high with 25 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Norwich University men’s basketball team dropped an 84-71 decision to Lasell College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game Tuesday evening.
Junior G/F Jaren Jeffcoat added 16 points and six rebounds for Norwich (5-2, 1- 1 GNAC). Senior F Israel Guardado and freshman G Ryan Williams each chipped in 10 points apiece for the Cadets, who saw their modest four-game win streak snapped.
The first five minutes of the game went back and forth, with Norwich clinging to a 12- 11 lead at the 14:54 mark. Three-pointers by Justin Harris and Horton keyed a quick 8-0 spurt, which gave Lasell a 19-12 lead just three minutes later. The teams traded baskets over the next three minutes, with the Lasers holding a 25-20 advantage with 7:53 to play in the first half. A triple by Orlow ignited a 19-5 scoring run by Lasell, which helped the Lasers build their largest lead of the half (44-25) at the 2:05 mark. Norwich trailed 45-29 at the intermission.
A pair of three-pointers by Theard helped Lasell opened the second half on a 9-2 spurt to seize a 54-31 lead at the 16:26 mark. Norwich used 17- 6 run over the next seven minutes to close to within 12 points (60-48) at the 9:13 mark, but Lasell answered with a 15-3 run to build its largest lead of the game (75- 51) with 5:19 to play.
